Impacts of dysphagia on the quality of life of patients with Parkinson's disease

Resumo: Dysphagia is a clinical symptom present in Parkinson's disease, which contributes negatively to the patient's health status, leading to loss of pleasure when eating, influencing aspects of morbidity, mortality and quality of life. The present study aimed to identify the impacts caused by dysphagia, on the quality of life of patients with Parkinson's disease. This is a literature review, searching for articles in the following databases: electronic Scientific Eletronic Library Online (SCIELO), Latin American Caribbean Literature in Public Health (LILACS), US National Library of Medicine (PUBMED) between the years 2010 to 2020. The patient with Parkinson's disease who presents with dysphagia can manifest several changes in the swallowing action, among them, salivation problem, inability to handle food, difficulty with food in the mouth, choking, sudden contraction before, during and after swallowing, leading to involuntary weight loss, impaired health and quality of life. From this perspective, multidisciplinary monitoring is essential, helping patients to preserve their health and improve their quality of life. With this study it was possible to know the impacts of dysphagia on the quality of life of patients with Parkinson's disease. The need for further studies on the impacts caused by dysphagia is noteworthy, since, currently, the number of people with Parkinson's Disease has been growing significantly, and when associated with dysphagia, they have a greater impact on the quality of life of its patients.

El presente estudio tuvo como objetivo identificar los impactos causados ​​por la disfagia, en la calidad de vida de los pacientes con enfermedad de Parkinson. Esta es una revisión de literatura, buscando artículos en las siguientes bases de datos: Electronic Scientific Eletronic Library Online (SCIELO), Latin American Caribbean Literature in Public Health (LILACS), US National Library of Medicine (PUBMED) entre los años 2010 a 2020. El paciente con enfermedad de Parkinson que presenta disfagia puede manifestar varios cambios en la acción de deglución, entre ellos, problema de salivación, incapacidad para manipular los alimentos, dificultad con la comida en la boca, atragantamiento, contracción repentina antes, durante y después de la deglución, que conduce a una pérdida de peso involuntaria, deterioro de la salud y calidad de vida. En esta perspectiva, el seguimiento multidisciplinar es fundamental, ayudando a los pacientes a preservar su salud y mejorar su calidad de vida. Con este estudio fue posible conocer los impactos de la disfagia en la calidad de vida de los pacientes con enfermedad de Parkinson. Es de destacar la necesidad de realizar más estudios sobre los impactos que provoca la disfagia, ya que, en la actualidad, el número de personas con Enfermedad de Parkinson ha ido creciendo de forma significativa, y cuando se asocian a la disfagia tienen un mayor impacto en la calidad de vida de sus pacientes.A disfagia é um sintoma clínico presente na doença de Parkinson, que contribui negativamente no estado de saúde do paciente, levando a perda do prazer ao se alimentar, influenciando os aspectos de morbidade, mortalidade e qualidade de vida. O presente estudo teve como objetivo identificar os impactos ocasionados pela disfagia, na qualidade de vida de pacientes com Doença de Parkinson. Trata-se de uma revisão de literatura, com a busca de artigos nas seguintes bases de dados: eletrônicos Scientific Eletronic Library Online (SCIELO), Literatura Latino-Americana do Caribe em Saúde Pública (LILACS), U. S. National Library of Medicine (PUBMED) entre os anos de 2010 a 2020. O paciente com Doença de Parkinson que apresenta disfagia pode manifestar diversas mudanças na ação de deglutir, dentre elas, problema na salivação, incapacidade de manuseio de alimento, dificuldade com o alimento na boca, engasgo, contração repentina antes, durante e depois da deglutição, levando a perda de peso involuntária, comprometimento da saúde e qualidade de vida. Nessa perspectiva, é essencial um acompanhamento multidisciplinar, ajudando os portadores preservarem à saúde e melhora da qualidade de vida. Com esse estudo foi possível conhecer os impactos da disfagia na qualidade de vida do paciente com Doença de Parkinson.
