Resumo: The purpose of this study is to demonstrate the importance of using quality tools in a large steel company. In this work, the use of statistical tools to support the decision on the use of the Post Stirring method is demonstrated. This method allows the steel quality  improvement  with less cost. Results of process application were compared with results before its application. The boxplot, histogram, hypothesis test and linear regression tools were used. Results obtained from analysis of information collected by statistical methods were the basis for decision making. Results showed that the Post Stirring technique brings a reduction in phosphorus content and in the amount of oxygen dissolved in steel, providing a great opportunity to reduce costs by reducing consumption of deoxidizing materials. In addition, it promotes a significant improvement in the steel's clarity, bringing benefits to the final product.

En este trabajo, se demuestra el uso de herramientas estadísticas para apoyar la decisión sobre el uso del método Post Stirring. Este método permite mejorar la calidad del acero, con menor costo. Los resultados de la aplicación del proceso se compararon con los resultados antes de su aplicación. Se utilizaron las herramientas de diagrama de caja, histograma, prueba de hipótesis y regresión lineal. Los resultados obtenidos del análisis de la información recopilada por los métodos estadísticos fueron la base para la toma de decisiones. Los resultados mostraron que la técnica de Post-Agitación trae una reducción en el contenido de fósforo y en la cantidad de oxígeno disuelto en el acero, proporcionando una gran oportunidad para reducir costos al reducir el consumo de materiales desoxidantes. Además, promueve una mejora significativa en la claridad del acero, aportando beneficios al producto final.O objetivo desse estudo é demonstrar a importância da utilização de ferramentas da qualidade em uma siderúrgica de grande porte. Neste trabalho, é demonstado o uso de ferramentas estatísticas para apoiar a decisão sobre a utilização do método Post Stirring. Este método permite a melhoria da qualidade do aço, com menor custo. Os resultados da aplicação do processo foram comparados com os resultados antes da sua aplicação. Foram empregadas as ferramentas boxplot, histograma, teste de hipóteses e regressão linear. Os resultados obtidos a partir da análise das informações coletadas pelos métodos estatísticos foram a base para a tomada de decisão. Os resultados mostraram que a técnica de Post Stirring traz uma redução no teor de fósforo e na quantidade de oxigênio dissolvido no aço, promovendo uma grande oportunidade de redução de custo com a redução do consumo de materiais desoxidantes.
