Resumo: The objective of this study was to understand the perception of SAMU professionals about urgent and emergency care for people who are under the effect of psychoactive substances. The research was carried out with a qualitative approach, carried out at the SAMU headquarters in a medium-sized city in Rio Grande do Sul. The semi-structured interview technique was used for data collection, thematic analysis revealed the results, the results which were divided into three themes: urgent and emergency care for people who are under the influence of psychoactive substances; The fear of suffering violence; and The importance of continuing education for the approach of users of psychoactive substances. The prejudice and stigma on the part of health professionals and, also, the difficulties in these services, were points perceived by the participants as influencing this service. In addition, it was also possible to observe that some professionals believe that SAMU would not be the ideal service for psychiatric care.

La investigación se realizó con un enfoque cualitativo, realizada en la sede del SAMU en una ciudad de tamaño mediano en Rio Grande do Sul. Para la recolección de datos se utilizó la técnica de entrevista semiestructurada, surgieron los resultados del análisis temático, los cuales se dividieron en tres temas: atención de urgencia y emergencia a personas bajo la influencia de sustancias psicoactivas; El miedo a sufrir violencia; y La importancia de la educación continua para el acercamiento de los usuarios de sustancias psicoactivas. El prejuicio y el estigma por parte de los profesionales sanitarios y, también, las dificultades en estos servicios, fueron puntos percibidos por los participantes como influyentes en este servicio. Además, también se pudo observar que algunos profesionales creen que SAMU no sería el servicio ideal para la atención psiquiátrica.O objetivo deste estudo foi conhecer a percepção dos profissionais do SAMU sobre a atenção de urgência e emergência a pessoas que estão sob o efeito de substâncias psicoativas. A pesquisa foi realizada com uma abordagem qualitativa, realizado na sede do SAMU de um município de médio porte do Rio Grande do Sul. Utilizou-se da técnica de entrevista semi-estruturada para a coleta de dados, da análise temática emergiram os resultados, os quais foram divididos em três temas: o atendimento de urgência e emergência a pessoas que estão sob o efeito de substâncias psicoativas; O medo de sofrer violência; e A importância da educação permanente para a abordagem dos usuários de substâncias psicoativas.  O preconceito e o estigma por parte de profissionais de saúde e, também, as dificuldades nesses atendimentos, foram pontos percebidos pelos participantes como influenciadores desse atendimento.
