Resumo: This study aimed to analyze research using vestibular evoked myogenic potentials (VEMP) in the typical developing child population, through a literature review. The search was carried out in Portal of Journals Capes, in July 2019. The Boolean operators used were vestibular evoked myogenic potentials (OR) VEMP (AND) children (OR) child, in the English language, without delimiting the date of publication, with the filters “type of material” and “descriptors in the title”. Papers that investigated the results of cervical and / or ocular VEMP in the child population with typical development were included. In general, researchers describe the VEMP as a well-tolerated test for screening vestibular function in young children, fast and with reproducible results. Latencies may be lower in children compared to adults, although there is no significant difference in some results, which may be verified in future original studies with larger samples. The values can also vary according to the equipment, the transducer and the technique used.

La búsqueda electrónica se realizó en el Portal de Periodicos de Capes, en julio de 2019. Los operadores booleanos utilizados fueron: vestibular evoked myogenic potentials (OR) VEMP (AND) children (OR) child, en inglés, sin delimitar la fecha de publicación, con los filtros "tipo de material" y "descriptores en el título". Se incluyeron artículos que investigaron los resultados de VEMP cervical y / u ocular en la población infantil con desarrollo típico. En general, VEMP se ha descrito como una prueba bien tolerada para la detección de la función vestibular en niños pequeños, rápido y con resultados reproducibles. Las latencias pueden ser avanzadas en niños en comparación con adultos, aunque no hay una diferencia significativa en algunos resultados, lo que se puede verificar en futuros estudios originales con muestras más grandes. Los valores también varían según el equipo, el transductor y la técnica utilizadaO presente estudo teve como objetivo analisar pesquisas utilizando os potenciais evocados miogênicos vestibulares (VEMP) na população infantil em desenvolvimento típico, por meio de uma revisão da literatura. A busca eletrônica foi realizada no Portal de Periódicos da Capes, em julho de 2019. Os operadores booleanos utilizados foram: Vestibular evoked myogenic potentials (OR) VEMP (AND) children (OR) child, no idioma inglês, sem delimitar a data de publicação, com os filtros “tipo de material” e “descritores no título”. Foram incluídos artigos que investigaram os resultados do VEMP cervical e/ou VEMP ocular na população infantil com desenvolvimento típico. De uma forma geral, o VEMP foi descrito como um teste bem tolerado para a triagem da função vestibular em crianças pequenas, rápido e com resultados reproduzíveis. As latências podem apresentar-se adiantadas em crianças em relação a adultos apesar de não ter diferença significativa em alguns resultados, o que poderá ser verificado em estudos originais futuros com amostras maiores.
