The lunch of Círio of Our Lady of Nazaré in Belém, Pará, Brazil: cultural and gastronomic experience

Resumo: The “Círio” of Our Lady of Nazareth occurs more than two hundred years in Belem. The festival lasts fifteen days with religious and secular activities. In this article we will study the Círio’s lunch, considered and celebrated as the "Pará’s Christmas", in order to show their cultural and gastronomical features. The study is qualitative with an anthropological approach that used participant observation, in addition to bibliographic and documentary research. It is concluded that the characteristics that stand out most in this event are the traditionality of the dishes offered and the identity relationship that the people of Pará have with their food, in addition to the dualistic character (profane and religious) that permeates the festival and its activities.

La fiesta dura quince días con actividades religiosas y profanas. En este artículo estudiaremos el almuerzo del Círio considerado y celebrado como la "Navidad de la gente de Pará" con la propuesta de mostrar sus características culturales y gastronómicas. El estudio es cualitativo con un enfoque antropológico que utilizó la observación participante, además de la investigación bibliográfica y documental. Se concluye que las características que más destacan en este evento son la tradicionalidad de los platos que se ofrecen y la relación de identidad que tiene el pueblo de Pará con su comida, además del carácter dualista (profano y religioso) que impregna el festival y sus actividades.O Círio de Nossa Senhora de Nazaré ocorre há mais de duzentos anos em Belém do Pará. A festividade tem duração de quinze dias com atividades religiosas e profanas. Neste artigo estuda-se o almoço do círio considerado e celebrado como o “natal dos paraenses” com a proposta de mostrar suas características culturais e gastronômicas. O estudo é qualitativo de abordagem antropológica que fez uso da observação participante, além de pesquisa bibliográfica e documental.
