The concept of paradigm in Thomas Kunh and Edgar Morin: similarities and differences

Resumo: The present article aimed to discuss the concept of paradigm in the thinking of Thomas Kuhn and Edgar Morin. In methodological terms, this study was carried out through a bibliographical research in scientific articles and books, being the qualitative data analysis approach. The research carried out evidenced the centrality of the paradigm concept for the works of Thomas Kuhn and Edgar Morin. In Kuhn's work the paradigm assumes a structuring function of the way phenomena are analyzed and understood. In Morin, this concept assumes a broad meaning, being understood as the matrix of Western thought. It was concluded that the main difference between the paradigm conceptualization for Morin and Kuhn is related to the comprehension of this concept. In relation to the similarities, both authors understand that scientific progress necessarily operates through the breaking and breaking of these models of explanation of reality, being even this the central proposal of the theory of the complexity developed by Edgar Morin.

En términos metodológicos, este estudio fue realizado por medio de una investigación bibliográfica en artículos científicos y libros, siendo el abordaje de análisis de los datos cualitativos. La investigación realizada evidenció la centralidad del concepto de paradigma para las obras de Thomas Kuhn y Edgar Morin. En la obra de Kuhn el paradigma asume una función estructurante de la forma como los fenómenos son analizados y comprendidos. En Morin, el referido concepto asume un significado amplio, siendo entendido como la matriz del pensamiento occidental. Se concluyó que la principal diferencia entre la concepción de paradigma para Morin y Kuhn se relaciona con el alcance de este concepto. En cuanto a las similitudes, ambos autores entienden que el progreso científico opera necesariamente por medio de la ruptura y ruptura de estos modelos de explicación de la realidad, siendo incluso esta la propuesta central de la teoría de la complejidad desarrollada por Edgar Morin.O presente artigo objetivou discutir o conceito de paradigma no pensamento de Thomas Kuhn e Edgar Morin. Em termos metodológicos, este estudo foi realizado por meio de uma pesquisa bibliográfica em artigos científicos e livros, sendo a abordagem de análise dos dados qualitativa. A pesquisa realizada evidenciou a centralidade do conceito de paradigma para as obras de Thomas Kuhn e Edgar Morin. Na obra de Kuhn o paradigma assume uma função estruturante da forma como os fenômenos são analisados e compreendidos. Em Morin, o referido conceito assume um significado amplo, sendo entendido como a matriz do pensamento ocidental. Concluiu-se que a principal diferença entre a conceituação de paradigma para Morin e Kuhn relaciona-se à abrangência deste conceito.
