Covid-19 and its impact on dental practice: a literature review

Resumo: | The pandemic caused by the Coronavirus (COVID-19) directly influenced the form of health care professionals. For the Dental Surgeon (CD), this moment meant necessary changes in his routine of patient care. Thus, this literature review aims to present prevention recommendations to the CD to control and minimize infection in dental treatment. A bibliographic search was performed in the PubMed, Google academic and SciELO databases, and in each search site the keywords "COVID-19", "dental Practice" and "dentistry" were used. Articles published in 2020 were selected in full and free versions, in English and Portuguese. The findings in the literature highlight the importance of using personal protective equipment, as well as the disinfection of surfaces with 70% alcohol, efficient hand washing before and after treatment, body temperature measurement. Telephone screening and / or clinical questionnaires are recommended. COVID-19 is an emergency worldwide and has come up with new challenges for professionals. Thus, it is important that the DC is updated and trained to perform a complete dental care with greater biosafety. |

Para el Cirujano Dentista (CD), este momento significó cambios necesarios en su rutina de atención al paciente. Así, esta revisión de la literatura tiene como objetivo presentar recomendaciones de prevención a la EC para controlar y minimizar la infección en el tratamiento odontológico. Se realizó una búsqueda bibliográfica en las bases de datos PubMed, Google académico y SciELO, y en cada sitio de búsqueda se utilizaron las palabras clave "COVID-19", "práctica dental" y "odontología". Los artículos publicados en 2020 fueron seleccionados en versión completa y gratuita, en inglés y portugués. Los hallazgos en la literatura resaltan la importancia del uso de equipo de protección personal, así como la desinfección de superficies con alcohol al 70%, lavado de manos eficiente antes y después del tratamiento, medición de la temperatura corporal. Se recomiendan exámenes telefónicos y / o cuestionarios clínicos. COVID-19 es una emergencia en todo el mundo y ha planteado nuevos desafíos para los profesionales. Por ello, es importante que el CD esté actualizado y capacitado para realizar un cuidado dental completo con mayor bioseguridad.A pandemia causada pelo Coronavírus (COVID-19) influenciou diretamente na forma de atendimentos dos profissionais da saúde. Para o Cirurgião-dentista (CD), este momento significou mudanças necessárias em sua rotina de atendimento ao paciente. Dessa forma, esta revisão de literatura objetiva apresentar ao CD recomendações de prevenção para controlar e minimizar a infecção no tratamento odontológico. Foi realizado uma pesquisa de busca bibliográfica nas bases de dados PubMed, Google acadêmico e SciELO, e em cada sítio de busca foram utilizadas as palavras-chave “COVID-19”, “dental Practice” e “dentistry”. Foram selecionados artigos publicados no ano de 2020 em suas versões completas e gratuitas, nos idiomas inglês e português. Os achados na literatura destacam a importância do uso de equipamento de proteção individual, assim como a desinfecção de superfícies com álcool 70%, lavagem eficiente das mãos antes e após o atendimento, medição da temperatura corporal. É recomendado a triagem por telefone e/ou questionários clínicos. O COVID-19 é uma emergência em todo o mundo e surgiu com novos desafios aos profissionais.
