Resumo: The objective of the present research was to diagnose and determine the frequency of protozoan and helminth species that affect the population of Lagoa do Vigário located in Campos dos Goytacazes, State of Rio de Janeiro, and to evaluate the physical-chemical and microbiological parameters of the waters of the lagoon. For that, 70 fecal samples were collected with the CoproPlus® collectors and the coproparasitological exams were performed according to the manufacturer's specifications. With the aid of a GPS device, water samples were collected from five points and physical-chemical and microbiological parameters were analyzed. Of the 70 people who participated in the study, 35% were infected by some parasite specie. The protozoa Endolimax nana, Giardia duodenalis, Entamoeba histolytica/dispar, Blastocystis hominis, Entamoeba coli and Iodamoeba butschlii were diagnosed, in addition to helminths such as Enterobius vermiculares and Strongyloides stercolaris. All water collection points showed contamination for total and thermotolerant coliforms with values greater than 2419.6 NMP / 100 mL. It is concluded that the results of this study demonstrate that the parasitic profile of the people who live around the lagoon is closely related to the precarious conditions of hygiene and education of individuals. The discharge of domestic effluent renders the water unsuitable for primary and secondary contact activities at some points analyzed. However, it is extremely important to apply Environmental Education projects to raise awareness and change the health habits of the population, guiding them in the search for a better quality of life.

Research, Society and Development2022-07-31info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttps://rsdjournal.org/index.php/rsd/article/view/3278910.33448/rsd-v11i10.32789Research, Society and Development; Vol. 11 No. 10; e283111032789Research, Society and Development; Vol. 11 Núm. 10; e283111032789Research, Society and Development; v. 11 n. 10; e2831110327892525-3409reponame:Research, Society and Developmentinstname:Universidade Federal de Itajubá (UNIFEI)instacron:UNIFEIporhttps://rsdjournal.org/index.php/rsd/article/view/32789/27778Copyright (c) 2022 Samira Salim Mello Gallo; Nicole Brand Ederli; Francisco Carlos Rodrigues de Oliveira; Melissa dos Santos Vidal Pestana; Rodrigo Maciel Limahttps://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessGallo, Samira Salim MelloEderli, Nicole BrandOliveira, Francisco Carlos Rodrigues dePestana, Melissa dos Santos VidalLima, Rodrigo Maciel2022-08-12T22:23:03Zoai:ojs.pkp.sfu.ca:article/32789Revistahttps://rsdjournal.org/index.php/rsd/indexPUBhttps://rsdjournal.org/index.php/rsd/oairsd.articles@gmail.com2525-34092525-3409opendoar:2024-01-17T09:48:39.620846Research, Society and Development - Universidade Federal de Itajubá (UNIFEI)false
