Resumo: | Fossil fuel consumption has been decreasing in recent years, however, world electric demand only increases with population growth. It is important to have alternative and less polluting ways of generating energy, among which is biodiesel, which can be obtained from different energy crops, such as safflower (Carthamus tinctorius L.). Viscosity and flash point directly affect engine performance, so it is important to reduce the values of these parameters in the bi-diesel. The objective of this work is to evaluate and characterize the production of biodiesel from safflower seeds, identifying the yield of the process and the efficiency of energy generation of the biofuel, as well as the specific consumption of the engine. The production process of obtaining biodiesel from safflower seeds was evaluated, building a flowchart with mass balance. The characteristics of the cake, oil and biodiesel resulting from the process were analyzed. And evaluated the specific consumption and energy generation of blends B00, B05, B10, B20, B30, B40, B50, B60 and B100, finding that there is no significant difference for the specific consumption and energy generation between the blends in the evaluated loads, showing significant differences only in relation to diesel. |

É importante contar com formas alternativas e menos poluentes de geração de energia, entre elas o biodiesel, que pode ser obtido de diferentes culturas energéticas, como o cártamo (Carthamus tinctorius L.). A viscosidade e o ponto de fulgor afetam diretamente o desempenho do motor, por isso é importante reduzir os valores desses parâmetros no biodiesel. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar e caracterizar a produção de biodiesel a partir de sementes de cártamo, identificando o rendimento do processo e a eficiência de geração de energia do biocombustível, além do consumo específico do motor. O processo de produção para a obtenção de biodiesel a partir de sementes de cártamo foi avaliado, construindo um fluxograma com balanço de massa. Foram analisadas as características da torta, do óleo e do biodiesel resultantes do processo. E avaliou-se o consumo específico e a geração de energia das misturas B00, B05, B10, B20, B30, B40, B50, B60 e B100, constatando que não há diferença significativa para o consumo específico e geração de energia entre as misturas nas cargas avaliadas, apresentando diferenças significativas apenas em relação ao diesel.El consumo de combustibles fósiles está disminuyendo en los últimos años, sin embargo, la demanda eléctrica mundial solo aumenta con el crecimiento de la población. Es importante contar con formas alternativas y menos contaminantes de generación de energía, entre ellas el biodiesel, que puede ser obtenido de diferentes culturas energéticas, como el cártamo (Carthamus tinctorius L.). La viscosidad y el punto de fulgor afectan directamente el desempeño del motor, por eso, es importante reducir los valores de estos parámetros en el biodiesel. El objetivo de este trabajo fue evaluar y caracterizar la producción de biodiesel a partir de semillas de cártamo, identificando el rendimiento del proceso y la eficiencia de generación de energía del biocombustible, además del consumo específico del motor. El proceso de producción para la obtención de biodiesel a partir de semillas de cártamo fue evaluado, construyendo un flujograma con balance de masa. Fueron analizadas las características de la torta, del aceite y del biodiesel resultantes del proceso.
