Resumo: | Betahydroxy-beta-methylbutyrate (HMB) is a branched-chain metabolite of the amino acid L-Leucine, synthesized in liver and muscle cells. It shows many functional properties observed as therapeutic effect in many deseases, highlighting those with proteic catabolism nd anticatabolic effect, being related to the increase of muscle strength and muscle mass, therefore, without treatment of sarcopenia. This study is a literature review not classified as PubMed, eduCAPES, ResearchGate database with keywords "beta-hydroxy-beta-methylbutyrate" or "HMB", "anabolic effect of HMB", "dietary sources" properties of HMB". The terms were designated, those that prevail are a factor of differentiation and the therapeutic and functional factors, standing out their anabolic effect, increase of the strength and reduction of the body fat. |

Tiene muchas propiedades funcionales, que se observan en su papel como agente terapéutico en algunas enfermedades, especialmente aquellas con marcado catabolismo proteico, está relacionado con el aumento de la fuerza y la masa muscular, por lo tanto, actúa en el tratamiento de la sarcopenia. Este estudio es una revisión integradora de la literatura que utiliza las bases de datos PubMed, eduCAPES, ResearchGate con las palabras clave "beta-hidroxi-beta-metilbutirato" o "HMB", "efecto anabólico de HMB", "Fuentes dietéticas" y "Propiedades de HMB". Los resultados fueron descriptivos, lo que llevó a la investigación a determinar sus efectos y propiedades, especialmente su efecto anabólico, aumento de la fuerza y reducción de la grasa corporal.O betahidroxi-beta-metilbutirato (HMB) é um metabólito de cadeia ramificada do aminoácido L-Leucina, sintetizado no fígado e nas células musculares. Apresenta muitas propriedades funcionais, as quais se observam na sua atuação como agente terapêutico em algumas enfermidades, destacando àquelas com acentuado catabolismo proteico, está relacionado ao aumento da força e da massa muscular, portanto atua no tratamento da sarcopenia. Esse estudo é uma revisão de literatura do tipo integrativa, no qual utilizou-se as bases de dados PubMed, eduCAPES, ResearchGate com as palavras-chave “beta-hidroxi- beta-metilbutirato” ou “HMB”, “efeito anabólico do HMB”, “fontes dietéticas” e “propriedades do HMB”. Os resultados foram descritivos, os quais conduziram a pesquisa a dispor os efeitos e propriedades, destacando-se principalmente o seu efeito anabólico, aumento da força e redução da gordura corporal.
