Iron deficiency anemia in the State of Maranhão: an analysis between 2018 and 2022

Resumo: Objectives: To identify the epidemiological profile of Iron Deficiency Anemia in the State of Maranhão between 2018 and 2022. Methodology: This is an epidemiological, retrospective and descriptive study based on data obtained from the Hospital Information System of the Department of Informatics of the Unified Health System (SIH/DATASUS). Results: It was verified that there were 1,628 hospitalizations due to iron deficiency anemia in Maranhão between January 2018 and December 2022 and there were 15 deaths from this condition in that time period. In addition, it was possible to observe that the most affected age group was 30 to 39 years and 40 to 49 years. As for gender, females showed the highest number of affected patients with 59% of the total. Finally, a gradual increase in the incidence of this anemia was observed in the analyzed population between 2018 and 2022. Conclusion: iron deficiency anemia is prevalent in the population of the State of Maranhão, mainly in patients over 20 years of age, female and male. of brown ethnicity, with their hospitalizations more concentrated in the regions of Codó, São Luís and Pedreiras.

Resultados: Se verificó que hubo 1.628 hospitalizaciones por anemia ferropénica en Maranhão entre enero de 2018 y diciembre de 2022 y hubo 15 muertes por esta condición en ese período de tiempo. Además, se pudo observar que el grupo de edad más afectado fue el de 30 a 39 años y el de 40 a 49 años. En cuanto al género, el sexo femenino presentó el mayor número de pacientes afectados con un 59% del total. Finalmente, se observó un aumento gradual en la incidencia de esta anemia en la población analizada entre 2018 y 2022. Conclusión: la anemia ferropénica es prevalente en la población del Estado de Maranhão, principalmente en pacientes mayores de 20 años, mujeres y hombres. de etnia parda, con sus hospitalizaciones más concentradas en las regiones de Codó, São Luís y Pedreiras.Objetivos: Identificar o perfil epidemiológico da Anemia Ferropriva no Estado do Maranhão entre 2018 e 2022. Metodologia: Trata-se de um estudo epidemiológico, retrospectivo e descritivo baseado em dados obtidos no Sistema de Informações Hospitalares do Departamento de Informática do Sistema Único de Saúde (SIH/DATASUS). Resultados: Certificou-se que ocorreram 1.628 internações por anemia ferropriva no Maranhão no período entre janeiro de 2018 e dezembro de 2022 e houve 15 óbitos por essa afecção nesse intervalo de tempo. Além disso, foi possível observar que a faixa etária mais afetada foi de 30 a 39 anos e 40 a 49 anos. Quanto ao sexo, o feminino mostrou maior número de afetados com 59% do total. Por fim, observou-se um aumento gradual da incidência dessa anemia na população analisada entre 2018 e 2022.
