Resumo: Ozone (O3) is an allotropic molecule that was discovered in the mid-19th century. It has a cyclic structure composed of three oxygen atoms which is normally present as a gas. The use of ozone in clinical practice was introduced in the last century by some pioneering clinicians who developed work mainly focused on the area of locally applied medicinal ozone. Since then, the therapeutic use in medicine has been extended to many diseases. The aim of this study is to review the action of ozone on various microorganisms. In order to carry out this work, a literature review was carried out in which articles were used that address topics about ozone in various biological aspects. Ozone inactivates microorganisms by reacting with their intracellular enzymes, nucleic material and components of their cell envelope, spore coats or viral capsids. It has been found that ozone is an excellent option for multiple uses, from sanitization treatment, to the medicinal use of pathogenic agents and also for water purification.

Research, Society and Development2022-08-15info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttps://rsdjournal.org/index.php/rsd/article/view/3336310.33448/rsd-v11i11.33363Research, Society and Development; Vol. 11 No. 11; e37111133363Research, Society and Development; Vol. 11 Núm. 11; e37111133363Research, Society and Development; v. 11 n. 11; e371111333632525-3409reponame:Research, Society and Developmentinstname:Universidade Federal de Itajubá (UNIFEI)instacron:UNIFEIporhttps://rsdjournal.org/index.php/rsd/article/view/33363/28194Copyright (c) 2022 Cleverson Marcelo Pilatti; Rafael Luiz Dias; Célia Patrícia Müller Rodrigues; Eduardo Alexandre Loth; Rodrigo Sávio Pessoahttps://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessPilatti, Cleverson Marcelo Dias, Rafael Luiz Rodrigues, Célia Patrícia Müller Loth, Eduardo Alexandre Pessoa, Rodrigo Sávio 2022-09-05T13:24:46Zoai:ojs.pkp.sfu.ca:article/33363Revistahttps://rsdjournal.org/index.php/rsd/indexPUBhttps://rsdjournal.org/index.php/rsd/oairsd.articles@gmail.com2525-34092525-3409opendoar:2024-01-17T09:49:02.362671Research, Society and Development - Universidade Federal de Itajubá (UNIFEI)false
