Epidemiological analysis of dengue cases in Maranhão State, Brazil

Resumo: | Dengue is an acute febrile illness of viral and reemerging origin that today stands out as one of the main public health problems in the world. Within this context, this study aims to describe the epidemiological profile of dengue in the state of Maranhão, between the years 2008 to 2012. It is a descriptive, retrospective study with quantitative design. The same was done according to the profile of individuals with a positive diagnosis for dengue, in the period from 2008 to 2012 in the state of Maranhão. Data were obtained from the website of the Notifiable Diseases System (SINAN). For the descriptive statistical analysis of the data, the SPSS 20.0 program was used. The data were arranged in tables for a better understanding of them. Within the studied period, it was observed that the majority of cases occurred in urban centers, corresponding to 34.42% of the total; 33.79% of the cases predominated in the age group of 20-39 years, configuring it as the age group with the highest prevalence of the disease; the main classification was hemorrhagic dengue, totaling 2% of cases; most of the people affected had low education, 14.87% of the people analyzed did not have complete elementary school; the most affected breed was brown, corresponding to 65.73% of the total; most cases (77.78%) evolved to cure; 53% of the people affected by the disease were female. |

En este contexto, este estudio tiene como objetivo describir el perfil epidemiológico del dengue en el estado de Maranhão, entre los años 2008 a 2012. Es un estudio descriptivo, retrospectivo con diseño cuantitativo. Lo mismo se hizo de acuerdo con el perfil de las personas con un diagnóstico positivo de dengue, en el período de 2008 a 2012 en el estado de Maranhão. Los datos se obtuvieron del sitio web del Sistema de Enfermedades de Notificación (SINAN). Para el análisis estadístico descriptivo de los datos, se utilizó el programa SPSS 20.0. Los datos se organizaron en tablas para comprenderlos mejor. Dentro del período estudiado, se observó que la mayoría de los casos ocurrieron en centros urbanos, lo que corresponde al 34,42% del total; El 33,79% de los casos predominó en el grupo de edad de 20-39 años, configurándolo como el grupo de edad con mayor prevalencia de la enfermedad; la clasificación principal fue dengue hemorrágico, totalizando el 2% de los casos; la mayoría de las personas afectadas tenían baja educación, el 14.87% de las personas analizadas no tenían escuela primaria completa; la raza más afectada fue la marrón, que corresponde al 65.73% del total; la mayoría de los casos (77.78%) evolucionaron para curar; El 53% de las personas afectadas por la enfermedad eran mujeres.A dengue é uma doença febril aguda de origem viral e reemergente que hoje se destaca como um dos principais problemas de saúde pública do mundo. Dentro desse contexto, este estudo visa descrever o perfil epidemiológico da dengue no estado do Maranhão, entre os anos de 2008 a 2012. Trata-se de um estudo descritivo, retrospectivo com delineamento quantitativo. O mesmo foi realizado conforme o perfil dos indivíduos com o diagnóstico positivo para dengue, no período de 2008 a 2012 do estado do Maranhão. Os dados foram obtidos do sítio eletrônico do Sistema de Agravos Notificáveis (SINAN). Para a análise estatística descritiva dos dados, utilizou-se o programa SPSS 20.0. Os dados foram dispostos em tabelas para melhor entendimento dos mesmos.
