Analysis of the combustion of biomethane from urban solid waste for insertion into the natural gas network

Resumo: With the growth of the population and the increase in demand for energy, the need arises for the development of alternative sources of generation. Biomethane obtained from biogas purification, which can be extracted from the decomposition of municipal solid waste, present in abundant quantities in many Brazilian cities, has emerged as an interesting alternative to complement the use of gases for combustion. Since the main fuel used today is natural gas, of fossil origin and with negative environmental impacts in its extraction, this article promotes an analysis of the energy and environmental viability of the use of biomethane for injection in the natural gas network, the computational tools. The results obtained indicate that the gas emissions from the combustion of natural gas and biomethane are practically equivalent and the difference in the flame temperature values between the fuels is around 7.1%. Thus, the insertion of biomethane in the natural gas network, besides not implying the increase of environmental impacts also does not promote significant losses in the energetic characteristics of the mixture.

El biometano obtenido de la purificación de biogás, que puede ser extraído de la descomposición de los residuos sólidos urbanos, presentes en cantidades abundantes en muchas ciudades brasileñas, se ha convertido en una alternativa interesante para complementar el uso de gases para combustión. Dado que el principal combustible utilizado en la actualidad es el gas natural, de origen fósil y con impactos ambientales negativos en su extracción, este artículo promueve un análisis de la viabilidad energética y ambiental del uso de biometano inyectable en la red de gas natural, las herramientas computacionales. Los resultados obtenidos indican que las emisiones de gases de la combustión de gas natural y biometano son prácticamente equivalentes y la diferencia en los valores de temperatura de llama entre los combustibles se sitúa en torno al 7,1%. Así, la inserción de biometano en la red de gas natural, además de no implicar el aumento de los impactos ambientales, tampoco promueve pérdidas significativas en las características energéticas de la mezcla.Com o crescimento da população e o aumento da demanda por energia surge a necessidade de desenvolvimento de fontes alternativas energia. O biometano, obtido a partir da purificação do biogás, que pode ser retirado da decomposição resíduos sólidos urbanos, presente em quantidades abundantes em muitas cidades brasileiras, tem se despontado como uma interessante alternativa a fim de complementar a utilização combustíveis gasosos, visto que o principal combustível utilizado atualmente é o gás natural, de origem fóssil e com impactos ambientais negativos em sua extração.  Este trabalho promove a análise da viabilidade energética e ambiental da utilização do biometano para a injeção na rede de gás de natural, a partir de ferramentas de simulações computacionais. Os resultados obtidos, indicam que as emissões dos gases da combustão do gás natural e do biometano são praticamente equivalentes e, a diferença nos valores de temperatura de chama entre os combustíveis é de cerca de 7,1%.
