Wind direction dodeling in Patos in Paraiba using von Mises probability distribution

Resumo: Objective: we used the distribution of circular probabilities of von Mises to determine the predominant wind direction in Patos, Paraíba. Method: we used hourly data of circular wind direction, obtained by the National Institute of Meteorology - INMET, from July 21, 2007 to September 30, 2018. Circular statistics were applied to the data, more precisely, the von Mises distribution. Results: The results of the analyses showed that the von Mises distribution adjusted well to the wind direction data, verifying that the wind direction in this municipality is with a high variation in the Southeast direction. Conclusion: The analysis allowed to be a useful tool for a possible installation of a wind farm, obtaining a greater use of the wind direction in the locality.

Se aplicaron estadísticas circulares a los datos, más precisamente, a la distribución de von Mises. Resultados: Los resultados de los análisis mostraron que la distribución de von Mises se ajustó bien a los datos de dirección del viento, verificando que la dirección del viento en este municipio es con una alta variación en la dirección sureste. Conclusión: El análisis permitió ser una herramienta útil para una posible instalación de un parque eólico, obteniendo un mayor uso de la dirección del viento en la localidad.Objetivo: utilizamos a distribuição de probabilidade circular de von Mises para determinar a direção predominante do vento em Patos na Paraíba. Método:  utilizaram-se dados horários de direção do vento circular, obtidos pelo Instituto Nacional de Meteorologia – INMET, no período de 21 de julho de 2007 a 30 de setembro de 2018. Foi aplicada estatística circular aos dados, mais precisamente, a distribuição de von Mises. Resultados: Os resultados das análises demonstraram que a distribuição de von Mises se ajustou bem aos dados de direção de vento, verificando que a direção do vento nesse município está com uma alta variação no sentido Sudeste.
