One hundred and twenty years of Anísio Teixeira: “Education is not only the basis of democracy, but social justice itself. ”

Resumo: Aiming to rescue the importance of the transmission of knowledge accumulated by humanity as a strategy for the promotion of human emancipation, democracy and social justice, this article presents a synthesis of the personal and professional trajectory of intellectual Anísio Teixeira.  Born in 1900 and forgotten by current literature, Anísio Teixeira worked in the Department of Education and Health of the State of Bahia from 1947 to 1951, and promoted significant local and national changes in education. His main struggle was to break with social inequalities and emancipate the future citizen. As a strategy, he supported the New School Movement and created the Park-Schools, these being the first institutions in Brazil to offer teaching in full and emancipation. According to his contributions and his legacy, it is strange for us that his name receives little attention from current educators.

Nacido en 1900 y poco recordado por la literatura actual, Anísio Teixeira dirigió el Departamento de Educación y Salud del Estado de Bahía de 1947 a 1951, e hizo cambios significativos en la educación a nivel local y nacional. Su principal lucha fue romper con las desigualdades sociales y emancipar al futuro ciudadano. Como estrategia, apoyó el Movimiento Escuela Nueva y creó las Escuelas-Parques, que son las primeras instituciones en Brasil a ofrecer educación en tiempo integral y convertida para emancipación. Según sus contribuciones y legado, es sorprendente que su nombre reciba poca atención de los educadores actuales.Objetivando resgatar a importância da transmissão do conhecimento acumulado pela humanidade como estratégia para a promoção da emancipação humana, da democracia e da justiça social, este artigo apresenta uma síntese da trajetória pessoal e profissional do intelectual baiano Anísio Teixeira.  Nascido em 1900 e pouco lembrado pela literatura vigente, Anísio Teixeira esteve à frente da Secretaria de Educação e Saúde do Estado do Bahia de 1947 a 1951, e protagonizou significativas mudanças na educação em âmbito local e nacional. Sua principal luta foi por romper com as desigualdades sociais e emancipar o futuro cidadão. Como estratégia, apoiou o Movimento Escola Nova e criou as Escolas-Parques, sendo estas, as primeiras instituições no Brasil a oferecer ensino na modalidade integral e voltado à emancipação.
