Comparison of yield by different methods of oil extraction from pequi pulp

Resumo: The oil extracted from the pequi pulp encompasses benefits in several areas, ranging from the medical field to the production of biodiesel, in addition to being rich in carotenoids. The objective of the work was to compare different methods of oil extraction from pequi pulp, and the study of the viability of a solar concentrator as an alternative. For the extraction, a Soxhlet device, an ultrasound and a twelve-sided biangular solar concentrator were used. The pequi pulp sample was previously dried and crushed in order to optimize the extraction process. The solvents used were ethanol and hexane. When the sample was left in an oven at 60ºC for 16 hours to perform its drying, a better extraction yield was obtained. The method that obtained the best yield of extracted oil was Soxhlet using hexane as the extracting solvent (59.96%). Hexane proved to be a more suitable solvent than ethanol. It was concluded in the experiment that the solar concentrator is a good alternative for the extraction process, however it has some limitations, such as the dependence on temperature and solar radiation and the large amount of solvent it uses.

El objetivo del trabajo fue comparar diferentes métodos de extracción de petróleo de la pulpa de pequi, y el estudio de la viabilidad de un concentrador solar como alternativa. Para la extracción, se utilizaron un dispositivo Soxhlet, un ultrasonido y un concentrador solar biangular de doce lados. La muestra de pulpa de pequi se secó y trituró previamente para optimizar el proceso de extracción. Los solventes utilizados fueron etanol y hexano. Cuando la muestra se dejó en un horno a 60ºC durante 16 horas para realizar su secado, se obtuvo un mejor rendimiento de extracción. El método que obtuvo el mejor rendimiento del aceite extraído fue Soxhlet utilizando hexano como disolvente de extracción (59,96%). El hexano demostró ser un solvente más adecuado que el etanol. Se concluyó en el experimento que el concentrador solar es una buena alternativa para el proceso de extracción, sin embargo, tiene algunas limitaciones, como la dependencia de la temperatura y la radiación solar y la gran cantidad de solvente que utiliza.O óleo extraído da polpa do pequi abrange benefícios em diversas áreas, variando da área médica até na produção de biodiesel, além de ser rico em carotenoides. O objetivo do trabalho foi comparar diferentes métodos de extração do óleo da polpa de pequi, e o estudo da viabilização de um concentrador solar como uma alternativa. Para a extração foram utilizados um aparelho Soxhlet, um ultrassom e um concentrador solar biangular de doze lados. A amostra de polpa de pequi foi previamente secada e triturada com o objetivo de otimizar o processo de extração. Os solventes utilizados foram o etanol e o hexano. Quando a amostra foi deixada em estufa a 60ºC por 16 horas para realizar a sua secagem, obteve-se um melhor rendimento de extração. Já o método que obteve melhor rendimento de óleo extraído foi o Soxhlet utilizando-se o hexano como solvente extrator (59,96%). O hexano mostrou-se um solvente mais adequado do que o etanol.
