Resumo: This article aims to report the experience lived by a nurse in the care of an indigenous patient, in the Intensive Care Unit of a Federal University Hospital in the State of Pará. This is a qualitative, descriptive, experience report type study. Communication was the point of difficulty encountered by nursing in interacting with the indigenous patient, evidenced at the time of patient admission to the Intensive Care Unit. The nurse's perception of involving the companion who was fluent in Portuguese was important for the success of the treatment. It was evident that, currently, when talking about assistance to indigenous patients, nursing perceives that there is a need for investment in the qualification of health professionals, since care is still permeated by stigma and based on personified and individual treatment. Therefore, the qualification of professionals must involve reception, guaranteeing access and comprehensive care that is provided to indigenous peoples.

Research, Society and Development2022-12-28info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttps://rsdjournal.org/index.php/rsd/article/view/3929410.33448/rsd-v11i17.39294Research, Society and Development; Vol. 11 No. 17; e277111739294Research, Society and Development; Vol. 11 Núm. 17; e277111739294Research, Society and Development; v. 11 n. 17; e2771117392942525-3409reponame:Research, Society and Developmentinstname:Universidade Federal de Itajubá (UNIFEI)instacron:UNIFEIporhttps://rsdjournal.org/index.php/rsd/article/view/39294/32303Copyright (c) 2022 Luciana Maria Furtado Fernandes; Anne Caroline Gonçalves Lima; Joana Dulce Cabral Formigosahttps://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessFernandes, Luciana Maria FurtadoLima, Anne Caroline GonçalvesFormigosa, Joana Dulce Cabral2022-12-28T13:53:48Zoai:ojs.pkp.sfu.ca:article/39294Revistahttps://rsdjournal.org/index.php/rsd/indexPUBhttps://rsdjournal.org/index.php/rsd/oairsd.articles@gmail.com2525-34092525-3409opendoar:2024-01-17T09:52:35.026538Research, Society and Development - Universidade Federal de Itajubá (UNIFEI)false
