Resumo: To compare the values of body fat (BC) obtained by anthropometry with bioimpedance (BIA) and with different predictive equations in the elderly. This is a cross-sectional study carried out with elderly users of health and social care services in Lagarto, Sergipe. The anthropometric measurements evaluated were weight, height and skinfold thickness. The GC was determined through the equation proposed by Durnin & Womersey (1974) to determine the percentage of GC (%GC). The bioimpedance test was performed using the Biodynamics 450® and five predictive equations existing in the literature were evaluated. The sample consisted of 63 elderly people, with a mean age of 67.9±5.7. There was a difference between the means of Anthro% GC, MLGBIA and %GCBIA between the sexes, with GC being superior among women (p<0.001) and significant agreement between GCAnthro with BIA and all predictive equations (p<0.001). The fat mass determined by the BIA and the Kyle equation showed a lower mean difference in relation to anthropometry, demonstrating agreement between the methods (p>0.05). The GC determined by BIA and the Kyle et al equation were the ones that best agreed with the GC estimated by anthropometry. Studies with representative samples are needed to assess BIA and predictive equations with more accurate methods for its applicability to the Brazilian elderly population.

Research, Society and Development2022-09-08info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttps://rsdjournal.org/index.php/rsd/article/view/3416410.33448/rsd-v11i12.34164Research, Society and Development; Vol. 11 No. 12; e113111234164Research, Society and Development; Vol. 11 Núm. 12; e113111234164Research, Society and Development; v. 11 n. 12; e1131112341642525-3409reponame:Research, Society and Developmentinstname:Universidade Federal de Itajubá (UNIFEI)instacron:UNIFEIporhttps://rsdjournal.org/index.php/rsd/article/view/34164/28890Copyright (c) 2022 Mario Francisco Dantas de Santana Filho; Tabla Marques Silveira; Carolina Cunha de Oliveirahttps://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessSantana Filho, Mario Francisco Dantas de Silveira, Tabla Marques Oliveira, Carolina Cunha de2022-09-26T11:56:08Zoai:ojs.pkp.sfu.ca:article/34164Revistahttps://rsdjournal.org/index.php/rsd/indexPUBhttps://rsdjournal.org/index.php/rsd/oairsd.articles@gmail.com2525-34092525-3409opendoar:2024-01-17T09:49:34.433163Research, Society and Development - Universidade Federal de Itajubá (UNIFEI)false
