Effects of different extractions techniques in obtaining the β-ecdysone from Pfaffia glomerata: a review study

Resumo: The Pfaffia glomerata is a plant of the family Amaranthaceae, naturally present in countless Brazilian regions, with medicinal properties and usually employed as anti stress, for increased immunity and as an aphrodisiac. These characteristics are due to the presence of the β-ecdysone, a saponin present exclusively in this species and which has great commercial value. Therefore, it becomes of industrial and scientific interest methodologies that optimize the extraction of β-ecdysone. This work aimed to conduct a literature review checking the influence of extractives methods and other factors in the income of the β-ecdysone. Thus, a bibliographic survey study was developed on three digital platforms: Academic Google, SciELO and Periodicals Capes, selecting articles published in the period between 2015-2020. After adequate selection of scientific materials, parameters related to the extraction of the β-ecdysone were analyzed in 12 scientific articles, such as methods of extraction, types and concentrations of solvents, beyond the extractive conditions, such as time, temperature and pressure. Afterwards, it was identified which extractive parameters used in these researches resulted in a higher content of β-ecdysone. It was noted that most authors used polar organic solvents due to the high polarity of the molecule, which occurs because of the bonds between hydrogen and oxygen atoms, and extraction by maceration, due to the ease and low cost of operations. Research has shown that temperatures between 333 and 393K increase extraction yield, but that above 393K lead to degradation of the molecule. Regarding the extraction pressure, research indicates that there was no increase in yield at pressures above 10MPa.

Estas características se deben a la presencia de β-ecdisona, una saponina presente exclusivamente en esta especie y que tiene un gran valor comercial. Por tanto, es de interés industrial y científico metodologías que optimicen la extracción de β-ecdisona. Este trabajo tuvo como objetivo realizar una revisión de la literatura verificando la influencia de los métodos extractivos y otros factores en el rendimiento de la extracción de β-ecdisona. Así, se elaboró un estudio de relevamiento bibliográfico en tres plataformas digitales: Google académico, SciELO y Periódicos Capes, seleccionando artículos publicados entre 2015-2020. Después de una selección adecuada de materiales científicos, fueron analizados los parámetros relacionados con la extracción de la β-ecdisona en 12 artículos científicos, tales como métodos, tipos y concentraciones de solventes, además de las condiciones de extracción, tales como tiempo, presión y temperatura. Luego, se identificó qué parámetros extractivos utilizados en estos estudios dieron como resultado un mayor contenido de β-ecdisona. Se encontró que la mayoría de los autores utilizan solventes orgánicos polares debido a la alta polaridad de la molécula, que se debe por los enlaces entre los átomos de hidrógeno y oxígeno, y la extracción por maceración, debido a la facilidad y bajo costo de operación. La investigación ha demostrado que las temperaturas entre 333 y 393K aumentaron el rendimiento de extracción, pero que por encima de 393K conducen a la degradación de la molécula. Con respecto a la presión de extracción, las investigaciones indican que no hubo aumento en el rendimiento a presiones superiores a 10MPa.A Pfaffia glomerata é uma planta da família Amaranthaceae, presente naturalmente em inúmeras regiões brasileiras, com propriedades medicinais e usualmente empregada como anti estresse, para o aumento da imunidade e como afrodisíaco. Este trabalho objetivou realizar uma revisão de literatura verificando a influência dos métodos extrativos e demais fatores no rendimento da extração da β-ecdisona. Assim, foi elaborado um estudo de levantamento bibliográfico em três plataformas digitais: Google Acadêmico, SciELO e Periódicos Capes, selecionando artigos publicados no período entre 2015-2020. Após adequada seleção de materiais científicos, analisou-se em 12 artigos científicos parâmetros relativos à extração da β-ecdisona, tais como métodos, tipos e concentração de solventes, além de condições de extração, tais como tempo, pressão e temperatura. Em seguida, identificou-se quais os parâmetros extrativos empregados nestas pesquisas resultaram em um maior teor de β-ecdisona. Verificou-se que a maioria dos autores empregaram solventes orgânicos polares devido à alta polaridade da molécula, que ocorre por conta das ligações entre átomos de hidrogênio e oxigênio, e extração por maceração, em função da facilidade e do baixo custo de operação. Pesquisas apontaram que temperaturas entre 333 e 393K aumentaram o rendimento da extração, mas que acima de 393K levam a degradação da molécula.
