Physical-mechanical properties of polymer-fiber composites produced by pressed molding

Resumo: | The objective was to evaluate the production process of polymer-fiber composites, by means of pressing, using low density polyethylene (LDPE) reinforced with wood flour in two granulometries and coconut fibers. The physical and mechanical properties of the molds produced were evaluated. In the process, it was used as a LDPE matrix in a virgin and recycled mixture reinforced with “thick” pine wood flour obtained in forestry industries in the city of Irati-PR, “fine” pine wood flour and coconut fiber provided by Inbrasfarma Ltda. The LDPE was mixed with each reinforcement, together with a coupling agent (Polybond 3009), and the mixtures were then processed using a twin screw extruder. The mixture was molded by compression, resulting in a series of pressed specimens, which were subjected to tensile, bending and hardness tests. The evaluation of the results showed that the addition of wood reinforcement to plastic, in general, increased the mechanical properties of the composite while the coconut fiber reinforcement was favorable only to flexion. There were significant differences in the properties of the composites due to the studied compositions. |

There were significant differences in the properties of the composites due to the studied compositions.El objetivo fue evaluar el proceso de producción de compuestos de fibra de polímero, mediante prensado, utilizando polietileno de baja densidad (PEBD) reforzado con harina de madera en dos granulometrías y fibras de coco. Se evaluaron las propiedades físicas y mecánicas de los moldes producidos. En el proceso, se usó como una matriz de PEBD en una mezcla virgen y reciclada reforzada con harina de madera de pino "espesa" obtenida en industrias forestales en la ciudad de Irati-PR, harina de madera de pino "fina" y fibra de coco proporcionada por Inbrasfarma Ltda. El PEBD se mezcló con cada refuerzo, junto con un agente de acoplamiento (Polybond 3009), y las mezclas se procesaron luego usando una extrusora de doble tornillo. La mezcla se moldeó por compresión, dando como resultado una serie de muestras prensadas, que se sometieron a pruebas de tracción, flexión y dureza. La evaluación de los resultados mostró que la adición de refuerzo de madera al plástico, en general, aumentó las propiedades mecánicas del material compuesto, mientras que el refuerzo de fibra de coco fue favorable solo a la flexión. Hubo diferencias significativas en las propiedades de los compuestos debido a las composiciones estudiadas.Objetivou-se avaliar o processo de produção de compósitos polímero-fibra, por meio de prensagem, utilizando polietileno de baixa densidade (PEBD) reforçados com farinha de madeira em duas granulometrias e fibras de coco. Foram avaliadas as propriedades físico-mecânicas dos moldes produzidos. No processo utilizou-se como matriz PEBD em uma mistura virgem e reciclado reforçado com farinha de madeira de pinus “grossa” obtida em indústrias florestais da cidade de Irati-PR, farinha de madeira de pinus “fina” e fibra de coco cedidas pela Inbrasfarma Ltda. O PEBD foi misturado a cada um dos reforços, juntamente com um agente de acoplamento (Polybond 3009), sendo em seguida, as misturas processadas com uso de uma extrusora dupla-rosca. A mistura foi moldada por compressão, resultando numa série de corpos-de-prova prensados, os quais foram sujeitados a ensaios de tração, flexão e dureza. A avaliação dos resultados demonstrou que a adição do reforço madeira ao plástico, em geral, aumentou as propriedades mecânicas do compósito enquanto o reforço fibra de coco foi favorável apenas à flexão.
