Resumo: | Currently, vitamin D (VitD) has been recognized for its hormonal function and its potential on mineral homeostasis parameters, metabolic processes and action in reproduction. Therefore, it is importante to understand that, although this vitamin can be acquired through food, its monitoring is essential in the veterinary rotine of domestic dogs, because they may have low levels of VitD avalible. The realy identificantion of reduced levels of this important vitamin may help in prevention and treatment of several types of diseases. Thus, this study aimed to conduct a retrospective study to evaluate the serum levels of vitamin D in males and females dogs in Natal – Rio Grande do Norte region in the years 2019 to 2021 jointly ascertaining data about sex and age of these animals, and the influence of these characteristics on a possible vitamin D deficiency. Blood tests were performed in 120 dogs, being males and females to ascertain how their vitamin D levels were, of which only 4% were normal, 73% borderline, 14% above and 9% below the indicated, and it was found that more than 90% of the animals analyzed needed regularization of their Vitamin D levels. |
