Mental health in the black population: Knowledge and practices of teachers and students from the hospital management

The objective of the article is to understand the knowledge and practices of faculty and students of the undergraduate course in Hospital Management on the mental health of the black population. This is a descriptive study, with a qualitative approach, carried out between July and August 2021, with students and professors from the Hospital Management course at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte. For data collection, which took place via the zoom meeting platform, a sociodemographic questionnaire and a semi-structured interview were used. The sample consisted of 12 subjects, following the theoretical saturation of speech criteria. Data content analysis was performed. The research participants were mostly female, single, with a mean age of 29 years, who declared themselves brown. The following categories emerged from the analysis: I- Racial discrimination and impacts on the (mental) health of the black population; II- Mental health of the black population in theory and practice; and III- (In)formation for democratic and inclusive management. The theme in question is rarely addressed during the hospital management course, although the research subjects understand the relevance of the mental health of the black population in the context of public health.
