Resumo: | The Arecaceae family is known for its economic and environmental importance, with wide worldwide distribution due to its adaptability to climatic and edaphic conditions, it is found in all Brazilian biomes, its population is threatened with extinction, mainly because of anthropic actions. This work consists of a narrative review, based on scientific publications on the Family and, more specifically, on the genera Butia (Becc.) Becc. and Syagrus Mart. Data were obtained from scientific literature in books, websites and digital magazines. A gathering of botanical and biogeographic characteristics of the aforementioned genera, with the objective of supporting research work on viable alternatives for the conservation and valorization of these palm trees. Having as a proposal the development of breeding techniques by hybridization, in obtaining commercially desirable responses and to implement proposals for the preservation of native palm trees. Seeking to emphasize the importance of palm trees both for ecosystems and for the economic development of communities in order to seek alternatives for their preservation. |

Este trabajo consiste en una revisión narrativa, basada en publicaciones científicas sobre la Familia y, más concretamente, sobre los géneros Butia (Becc.) Becc. y Syagrus Mart.. Los datos se obtuvieron de la literatura científica en libros, sitios web y revistas digitales. Una colección de características botánicas y biogeográficas de los géneros mencionados, con el objetivo de apoyar trabajos de investigación sobre alternativas viables para la conservación y mejora de estas palmeras.Teniendo como propuesta el desarrollo de técnicas de mejoramiento por hibridación, en la obtención de respuestas comercialmente deseables e implementar propuestas de conservación de palmeras nativas. Buscando enfatizar la importancia de las palmeras tanto para los ecosistemas como para el desarrollo económico de las comunidades con el fin de buscar alternativas para su preservación.A família Arecaceae, é conhecida pela sua importância econômica e ambiental, com ampla distribuição mundial devido a sua adaptabilidade a condições climáticas e edáficas, é encontrada em todos os biomas brasileiros. Este trabalho consiste em uma revisão narrativa, a partir de publicações científicas sobre a Família e, mais especificamente, dos gêneros Butia (Becc.) Becc. e Syagrus Mart. Os dados foram obtidos a partir de literatura cientifica em livros, sites e revistas digitais. Uma reunião de características botânicas e biogeográficas dos gêneros citados, com o objetivo de fundamentar trabalhos de pesquisa sobre alternativas viáveis à conservação e valorização dessas palmeiras. Tendo como proposta o desenvolvimento de técnicas de melhoramento por hibridação, na obtenção de respostas desejáveis comercialmente e para implementar propostas de preservação das palmeiras nativas.
