Prevention of central venous catheter-related infection: care and knowledge of the nursing team

Resumo: | Objective: to identify the main nursing care in the prevention of central venous catheter related. Methodology: This is an integrative literature review in which the descriptors were used: changes related to catheters, central venous catheters, nursing care and disease prevention. Data collection was performed in the MEDLINE, SCIELO and BDENF databases and for the definition of inclusion criteria, the time frame from 2017 to 2020 was selected, complete articles, available free of charge and in Portuguese. Articles that did not correspond to the research focus and did not contribute to a discussion and achievement of the investigated objective were excluded. Results and Discussion: The final sample consisted of 09 articles which, after analyzing its contents, identified that the main nursing care for the prevention of infection related to the central venous catheter consisted of proper hand hygiene, ostium dressings of CVC with sterile occlusive dressing, daily delivery of the catheter insertion site, equipment changes and disinfection of connectors before being accessed. Conclusion: In view of this, it is believed that the study will provide relevant information for the nursing team, as well as for the entire multidisciplinary team that provides assistance to patients with these types of invasive devices. It is also important to emphasize and the importance of developing more studies involving the topic in question, considering the context of patient safety, which should be the main objective of the entire health team. |

Metodología: Se trata de una revisión integradora de la literatura en la que se utilizaron los descriptores: cambios relacionados con catéteres, catéteres venosos centrales, cuidados de enfermería y prevención de enfermedades. La recolección de datos se realizó en las bases de datos MEDLINE, SCIELO y BDENF y para la definición de los criterios de inclusión se seleccionó el marco temporal de 2017 a 2020, artículos completos, disponibles de forma gratuita y en portugués. Se excluyeron los artículos que no correspondían al enfoque de la investigación y que no contribuían a la discusión y el logro del objetivo investigado. Resultadosy discusión: La muestra final estuvo conformada por 09 artículos que, luego de analizar su contenido, identificaron que el principal cuidado de enfermería para la prevención de infecciones relacionadas con el catéter venoso central consistió en una adecuada higiene de manos, apósitos de ostium de CVC con vendaje oclusivo estéril, entrega diaria del sitio de inserción del catéter, cambio de equipo y desinfección de conectores antes de acceder. Conclusión: Ante esto, se cree que el estudio brindará información relevante para el equipo de enfermería, así como para todo el equipo multidisciplinario que brinda asistencia a los pacientes con este tipo de dispositivos invasivos. También es importante destacar y la importancia de desarrollar más estudios que involucren el tema en cuestión, considerando el contexto de la seguridad del paciente, que debe ser el objetivo principal de todo el equipo de salud.Objetivo: identificar os principais cuidados de enfermagem na prevenção de infecção relacionada à cateter venoso central. Metodologia:Trata-se de uma revisão integrativa da literatura na qual foi utilizada os descritores: infecções relacionadas a cateter, cateteres venosos centrais, cuidados de enfermagem e prevenção de doenças. A coleta de dados foi realizada nas bases de dados MEDLINE, SCIELO e BDENF e para a definição dos critérios de inclusão, foi selecionado o recorte temporal de 2017 a 2020, artigos completos, disponibilizados gratuitamente e em língua portuguesa. Foram excluídos os artigos que não correspondiam ao foco da pesquisa e não contribuíam para a discussão e alcance do objetivo investigado. Resultados e Discussão: A amostra final foi composta de 09 artigos que após a análise de seus conteúdos foi identificado que os principais cuidados de enfermagem para a prevenção de infecção relacionada à cateter venoso central constituíram-se de higienização das mãos de forma adequada, realização de curativos em óstio de CVC com curativo oclusivo estéril, inspeção diária do local de inserção do cateter, trocas de equipos e desinfecção de conectores antes de serem acessados. Conclusão: Em vista disso, acredita-se que o estudo fornecerá informações relevantes para a equipe de enfermagem, bem como para toda a equipe multiprofissional que presta assistência aos pacientes com esses tipos de dispositivos invasivos.
