Use of artificial pots by Melipona fasciculata Smith, 1854 (tiúba) for honey production in different models of beehives

Resumo: | Despite its high value and production potential, meliponiculture lacks technological practices that improve the product extraction process. This study aimed to compare the acceptance of artificial pots by Melipona fasciculata in the production of honey in different models of hives. The experiment was carried out between the months of August and December 2017, in the village of Limoeiro, municipality of Viana, Baixada Maranhense (Brazil). Artificial acrylic pots (50ml) were used in honey supers of different hive models (PNN, MARTHI, EMBRAPA). Acceptability and honey production were observed within the artificial pots. Monthly, the full and closed pots were removed and sent to the Laboratory, being replaced by empty artificial pots. Results indicated greater acceptance of artificial pots by bees in the EMBRAPA hive model. In the similarity dendrogram, based on Bray-Curtis distances, there was a strong clustering (95%) between the PNN and MARTHI hives, with the EMBRAPA model being the most dissimilar. The production of honey in artificial acrylic pots can be a practical, hygienic and economical alternative, being an innovative way to produce and consume honey. |

Este estudio tuvo como objetivo comparar la aceptación de tarros artificiales por Melipona fasciculata en la producción de miel en diferentes modelos de colmenas. El experimento se llevó a cabo entre los meses de agosto y diciembre de 2017, en la aldea de Limoeiro, municipio de Viana, Baixada Maranhense (Brasil). Se utilizaron tarros acrilicos artificiales de 50ml en alzas de miel de diferentes modelos de colmena (PNN, MARTHI, EMBRAPA). Se observó aceptabilidad y producción de miel dentro de los tarros artificiales. Mensualmente se retiraban los tarros llenos y cerrados y se enviaban al Laboratorio, siendo reemplazados por tarros artificiales vacíos. Los resultados indicaron una mayor aceptación de los tarros artificiales por las abejas en el modelo de colmena EMBRAPA. En el dendrograma de similitud, basado en distancias de Bray-Curtis, hubo un fuerte agrupamiento (95%) entre las colmenas PNN y MARTHI, siendo el modelo EMBRAPA el más diferente. La producción de miel en tarros acrílicos artificiales puede ser una alternativa práctica, higiénica y económica, siendo una forma innovadora de producir y consumir miel.Apesar do seu alto valor e potencial de produção, a meliponicultura é carente de práticas tecnológicas que aprimorem o processo de extração dos produtos. Neste trabalho objetivou-se comparar a aceitação de potes artificiais por Melipona fasciculata na produção de mel em diferentes modelos de colmeias. O experimento foi realizado entre os meses de agosto a dezembro de 2017, no povoado Limoeiro, município de Viana, Baixada Maranhense (Brasil). Foram utilizados potes artificiais de acrílico de 50ml em melgueiras de diferentes modelos de colmeia (PNN, MARTHI, EMBRAPA). Foram observadas a aceitabilidade e a produção de mel dentro dos potes artificiais. Mensalmente, os potes cheios e fechados foram retirados e encaminhados para o Laboratório, sendo substituídos por potes artificiais vazios. Resultados indicaram maior aceitação de potes artificiais pelas abelhas no modelo de colmeia EMBRAPA. No dendrograma de similaridade, baseado nas distâncias de Bray-Curtis, ocorreu forte agrupamento (95%) entre as colmeias PNN e MARTHI, sendo o modelo EMBRAPA o mais dissimilar.
