Performance of a drip irrigation system using photovoltaic energy

Resumo: The objective of the work was the use of a water pumping system for drip irrigation. The system was installed in the CASA (Alternative Systems Analysis Center) project. The energy used for the pumping was obtained by means of a Greatwatt horizontal axis photovoltaic panel installed on a self-supporting tower and a Shurflo 8000 model water pump. The trials were performed on days of open skies, cloudy and with few clouds, at different times and duplicated at each time. The energy produced was collected directly on site and the irrigation capacity was obtained by collecting the water and its uniformity estimated using the Christiansen Uniformity Coefficient (CUC) and the Distribution Uniformity Coefficient (CUD). The performance of the system varied according to the characteristics of the tests. The open-air days presented the highest values in relation to the energy produced, with an average of up to 15.1 Wh. On the other hand, the CUC and CUD values were within the acceptable range, most of them being considered excellent or higher than 90%. In this way, it can be verified the feasibility of using a solar photovoltaic system to obtain energy for irrigation in small properties in Cascavel-PR.

El sistema fue instalado en el proyecto CASA (Centro de Análisis de Sistemas Alternativos). La energía utilizada para el bombeo se obtuvo por medio de un panel fotovoltaico de pequeño tamaño de eje horizontal de Greatwatt instalado sobre una torre autoportante y una bomba de agua Shurflo modelo 8000. Los ensayos fueron realizados en días de cielo abierto, nublado y con pocas nubes, en diferentes horarios y duplicados a cada horario. La energía producida fue recogida directamente en el sitio y la capacidad de riego fue obtenida por la recolección del agua y su uniformidad estimada por medio del Coeficiente de Uniformidad de Christiansen (CUC) y del Coeficiente de Uniformidad de Distribución (CUD). El rendimiento del sistema variaba en función de las características de los ensayos. Los días de cielo abierto presentaron los mayores valores en relación a la energía producida, con media de hasta 15,1 Wh. Ya los valores de CUC y CUD se encuadraron dentro del rango considerado aceptable, siendo la mayoría de ellos considerado excelente o superiores al 90%. De esta manera, se puede verificar la viabilidad de la utilización de un sistema solar fotovoltaico para obtener energía destinada a riego en pequeñas propiedades en Cascavel-PR.O objetivo do trabalho foi a utilização de um sistema de bombeamento de água para irrigação por gotejamento. O sistema foi instalado no projeto CASA (Centro de Análises de Sistemas Alternativos). A energia usada para o bombeamento foi obtida por meio de um painel fotovoltaico de pequeno porte de eixo horizontal da Greatwatt instalado sobre uma torre autoportante e uma bomba d’água Shurflo modelo 8000. Os ensaios foram realizados em dias de céu aberto, nublado e com poucas nuvens, em diferentes horários e duplicados a cada horário. A energia produzida foi coletada diretamente no local e a capacidade de irrigação foi obtida pela coleta da água e sua uniformidade estimada por meio do Coeficiente de Uniformidade de Christiansen (CUC) e do Coeficiente de Uniformidade de Distribuição (CUD). O rendimento do sistema apresentou variações de acordo com as características dos ensaios. Os dias de céu aberto apresentaram os maiores valores em relação à energia produzida, com média de até 15,1 Wh. Já os valores de CUC e CUD enquadraram-se dentro da faixa considerada aceitável, sendo a maioria deles considerado excelente ou maiores que 90%.
