Analysis of the efficiency of slow filtration for the water treatment of a born situated in the rural area of Passabém – MG

Resumo: Residents of rural communities do not always have access to treated water, culminating in the use of water of doubtful quality. Thus, in order to improve the quality of water from a source used for supply at Fazenda Córrego dos Pinheiros, located in the rural area of Passabém (MG), this work aims to evaluate the efficiency of a slow filtration system for the removal of total solids, turbidity and Escherichia coli (E. coli). In addition, satellite images analyzed the use and occupation of the soil in this region in the last ten years and the neighbors’ perception about the water quality consumed by them. Data were collected through experimental research, laboratory research, documentary analysis and questionnaires, which were treated through descriptive statistics and content analysis. Thus, in the last 10 years, there was a small regeneration in an area of forest preserved in the vicinity of the farm, in addition, there was no increase in the number of buildings in the surroundings. Among the parameters that were analyzed, the slow filter proved to be efficient for the treatment of water, since with respect to E. coli, for example, a 100% removal efficiency was observed. However, it is noteworthy that the verified results regarding turbidity, total solids and pH parameters were already in compliance with Ministry of Health Ordinance nº 2.914/2011 before being submitted to the slow filter treatment. Although all residents claim to use spring water, most of them did not do any treatment before. It can be seen that, in general, for the residents participating in this research, apparently clean water is a sufficient characteristic to guarantee their quality for consumption.

De esta forma, con el objetivo de mejorar la calidad del agua proveniente de un manantial utilizado para abastecimiento en la Hacienda Corriente de los Pinheiros, ubicada en la zona rural de Pasabém (MG), este trabajo objetiva evaluar la eficiencia de un sistema de filtración lenta para la remoción de sólidos totales, turbidez y Escherichia coli (E. coli). Además, a través de imágenes de satélite se analizó el uso y ocupación del suelo en esa región en los últimos diez años y la percepción de los vecinos vecinos sobre la calidad del agua por ellos consumida. Los datos fueron recolectados a través de investigación experimental, investigación de laboratorio, análisis documental y cuestionarios, los cuales fueron tratados a través de la estadística descriptiva y análisis de contenido. De esta forma, se verificó con relación al uso y ocupación del suelo en los últimos diez años que ocurrió una pequeña regeneración en un área de mata preservada en las proximidades de la hacienda, además, no hubo aumento en el número de construcciones en el entorno de ésta. Entre los parámetros que fueron analizados, el filtro lento se mostró eficiente para el tratamiento del agua, ya que con relación a la E. coli, por ejemplo, se observó una eficiencia del 100% de remoción. Sin embargo, se destaca que los resultados verificados en cuanto a los parámetros turbidez, sólidos totales y pH ya atendían a la Orden del Ministerio de Salud n ° 2.914 / 2011 antes de ser sometidas al tratamiento en el filtro lento. A pesar de que todos los residentes afirman utilizar agua proveniente de manantiales, la mayoría de ellos no realizaba tratamiento previo de ésta. Se percibe así que, de manera general, para los residentes participantes de esa investigación, un agua aparentemente limpia es característica suficiente para garantizar su calidad para el consumo.Os moradores de comunidades rurais nem sempre têm acesso a água tratada, culminando na utilização de uma água de qualidade duvidosa. Dessa forma, com o intuito de melhorar a qualidade da água proveniente de uma nascente utilizada para abastecimento na Fazenda Córrego dos Pinheiros, localizada na zona rural de Passabém (MG), este trabalho objetiva avaliar a eficiência de um sistema de filtração lenta para a remoção de sólidos totais, turbidez e Escherichia coli (E. coli). Além disso, por meio de imagens de satélite foi analisado o uso e ocupação do solo nessa região nos últimos dez anos e a percepção dos moradores vizinhos sobre a qualidade da água por eles consumida. Os dados foram coletados através de pesquisa experimental, pesquisa laboratorial, análise documental e questionários, os quais foram tratados através da estatística descritiva e análise de conteúdo. Dessa forma, verificou-se com relação ao uso e ocupação do solo nos últimos dez anos que ocorreu uma pequena regeneração em uma área de mata preservada nas proximidades da fazenda, além disso, não houve aumento no número de construções no entorno desta. Dentre os parâmetros que foram analisados, o filtro lento se mostrou eficiente para o tratamento da água, visto que com relação à E. coli, por exemplo, foi observada uma eficiência de 100% de remoção. Contudo, destaca-se que os resultados verificados quanto aos parâmetros turbidez, sólidos totais e pH já atendiam à Portaria do Ministério da Saúde n° 2.914/2011 antes de serem submetidas ao tratamento no filtro lento. Apesar de todos os moradores afirmarem utilizar água proveniente de nascente, a maioria destes não realizava tratamento prévio desta.
