Balance and freezing profile of elderly with Parkinson's disease assisted in the municipality of João Pessoa - PB

Resumo: Objective: Analise and describe the clinical aspects and socio-demographics conditions of individuals with Parkinson’s Disease (PD) and clinical monitoring in the city of João Pessoa. Methodology: Descriptive study developed with 30 subjects of both genders, aged between 40 and 80 years, which were diagnosed with Idiopathic PD on all stages of Modified Hoehn and Yahr Scale (MHYS). The evaluation occurred by a semi-structured questionnaire, cognition tests and functional mobility. Results: The mean age found was 60,47 ± 7,57 years, where 71,3% are men, urban residents and average wage income of 2 to 3 minimum wages. The time of diagnosis was 82,5 ± 69,1 months, predominating the clinical mixed subtype. The calculated average on MMSE was 26,7 points. Participants presented motors disorders related to gait disfunctions, alleging freezing and an expressive number of falls. The most frequent non-motor symptoms were: sleep disorders (56,7%), cardiovascular disorders (36,7%) and gastrointestinal disorders (16,7%). Conclusion: based on this study results, was verified that the predominant socio-demographic profile are middle-aged individuals, married and male, that were classified between PD stages II and III, average time of diagnosis of 6 years and mixed clinical subtype. The social and cognitive level is consistent with the educational level of the sample. Also was observed the presence of important motor alterations related to gait disfunction, as well as non-motor PD symptoms.

Metodología: Estudio descriptivo desarrollado con 30 sujetos de ambos sexos, con edad entre 40 y 80 años, diagnosticados con EP idiopática en todos los estadios de la escala de Hoehn y Yahr Modificada (H&YM). La evaluación fue realizada a través de un cuestionario semiestructurado, test de cognición y movilidad funcional. Resultados: La media de edad encontrada fue de 60,47 ± 7,57 años, de los cuales el 71,3% eran hombres, residentes en la zona urbana y con renta salarial media de 2 a 3 salarios mínimos. El tiempo de diagnóstico relatado fue de 82,5 ± 69,1 meses predominando el subtipo clínico mixto. La media calculada en el MEEM fue de 26,7 puntos. Los participantes presentaron alteraciones motoras relacionadas a la disfunción de marcha, alegando congelamiento y un expresivo número de caídas. Los síntomas no-motores más frecuentes fueron: disturbios del sueño (56,7%), disturbios cardiovasculares (36,7%) y disturbios gastrointestinales (16,7%). Conclusión: Basándonos en los resultados de este estudio, se constató que el perfil sociodemográfico predominante es el de individuos de mediana edad, casados y de sexo masculino, clasificados entre los estadios II y III de la EP, con una media de tiempo de diagnóstico de 6 años y un subtipo clínico mixto. El nivel social y cognitivo condice con la escolaridad de la muestra. Se observó la presencia de alteraciones motoras importantes relacionadas a la disfunción de marcha, así como de síntomas no-motores de la EP.Objetivo: Analisar e descrever os aspectos clínicos e as condições sociodemográficas de indivíduos com Doença de Parkinson (DP) e acompanhamento clínico na grande João Pessoa. Metodologia: Estudo descritivo desenvolvido com 30 sujeitos de ambos os sexos, com idade entre 40 e 80 anos, diagnosticados com DP idiopática em todos os estágios da escala de Hoehn e Yahr Modificada (H&YM). A avaliação ocorreu por um questionário semiestruturado, testes de cognição e mobilidade funcional. Resultados: A média de idade encontrada foi 60,47 ± 7,57 anos, sendo 71,3% homens, residentes na zona urbana e renda salarial média de 2 a 3 salários mínimos. O tempo de diagnóstico relatado foi de 82,5 ± 69,1 meses predominando o subtipo clínico misto. A média calculada no MEEM foi de 26,7 pontos. Os participantes apresentaram alterações motoras relacionadas à disfunção de marcha, alegando congelamento e um expressivo número de quedas. Os sintomas não-motores mais frequentes foram: Distúrbios do sono (56,7%), distúrbios cardiovasculares (36,7%) e distúrbios gastrointestinais (16,7%). Conclusão: Embasado nos resultados deste estudo, constatou-se que o perfil sociodemográfico predominante é de indivíduos de meia idade, casado e do sexo masculino, classificados entre os estágios II e III da DP, média de tempo de diagnóstico de 6 anos e subtipo clínico misto. O nível social e cognitivo condiz com a escolaridade da amostra.
