Resumo: | Despite being part of the normal human microbiota, Staphylococcus aureus is one of the main pathogenic microorganisms for humans, causing from simple to potentially fatal infections. S. aureus can develop antimicrobial resistance factors, being a constant cause for concern and a serious public health problem. This study analyzed the prevalence of S. aureus in hospitals in Brazil, as well as their antimicrobial resistance profiles, contributing to the updating of health professionals. For this, an integrative literature review was carried out in PubMed, SciELO, ScienceDirect and Google Scholar databases, between 2011 and 2021. The following keywords were used: Staphylococcus aureus, MRSA, infection, hospitals in Brazil, and resistance. The search was done in English, Spanish, and Portuguese. Initially, 85 articles were selected, of which 35 were used to build the summary tables. The prevalence of S. aureus in patients, healthcare professionals, and hospital surface samples, associated with the high rates of oxacillin resistance, was observed in most of the articles analyzed. Thus, the continuous vigilance of S. aureus is mandatory, as well as the warning of healthcare professionals to the possibility of carrying this pathogen, emphasizing the importance of adhering to preventive measures and epidemiological control of this microorganism. |
