Conceptions and practices of nurses in palliative patient care and family

Resumo: Objective: to describe the conceptions and practices of nurses in the care of palliative patients and their families. Methodology: qualitative, exploratory and descriptive research, developed with twelve nurses working in the inpatient units, where palliative care is provided. Data collection took place through a semi-structured interview, recorded and later fully transcribed. For data analysis, thematic content analysis proposed by Minayo was used. Ethical principles in health were respected, according to the Resolution of the National Health Council No. 466/2012. The research project was approved by the Research Ethics Committee of the Universidade do Oeste de Santa Catarina, under Opinion number 1,968,812. Results: from the analysis, two thematic categories emerged, and, in this article, the thematic category will be presented - Conceptions and practices of nurses in the care of palliative patients and families, where it is observed that, in addition to measures of comfort and pain relief , nurses assign great importance in caring for the emotional and psychological dimension of the patient and family, which are essential for coping with the terminality process. Final considerations: it is essential for nurses who provide palliative care to pay attention to the humanistic practices that involve this type of care, such as knowing how to listen, offering support and support, respecting decisions, being present and having empathy with the patient and family. With this, the patient-family-nurse triad is strengthened and finds the best way to face the process of death and dying. This is configured in the principle of humanization of care, indispensable in palliative care.

Metodología: investigación cualitativa, exploratoria y descriptiva, desarrollada con doce enfermeros que actúan en las unidades de hospitalización, donde se brindan cuidados paliativos. La recolección de datos ocurrió a través de una entrevista semiestructurada, grabada y posteriormente transcrita en su totalidad. Para el análisis de los datos se utilizó el análisis de contenido temático propuesto por Minayo. Se respetaron los principios éticos en salud, según Resolución del Consejo Nacional de Salud N° 466/2012. El proyecto de investigación fue aprobado por el Comité de Ética en Investigación de la Universidade do Oeste de Santa Catarina, bajo el Dictamen número 1.968.812. Resultados: del análisis surgieron dos categorías temáticas y, en este artículo, se presentará la categoría temática - Concepciones y prácticas de enfermeros en el cuidado de pacientes paliativos y familiares, donde se observa que, además de las medidas de comodidad y alivio del dolor, las enfermeras asignan gran importancia al cuidado de la dimensión emocional y psicológica del paciente y de la familia, que son fundamentales para el enfrentamiento del proceso de terminalidad. Consideraciones finales: es fundamental que los enfermeros que brindan cuidados paliativos presten atención a las prácticas humanísticas que envuelven ese tipo de cuidado, como saber escuchar, ofrecer apoyo y apoyo, respetar las decisiones, estar presente y tener empatía con el paciente y familia. Con esto, la tríada paciente-familia-enfermera se fortalece y encuentra la mejor manera de enfrentar el proceso de la muerte y el morir. Esto se configura en el principio de humanización de los cuidados, indispensable en los cuidados paliativos.Objetivo: descrever as concepções e práticas de enfermeiros no cuidado ao paciente paliativo e família. Metodologia: pesquisa qualitativa, do tipo exploratória e descritiva, desenvolvida com doze enfermeiros atuantes nas unidades de internação, onde são prestados os cuidados paliativos. A coleta dos dados aconteceu por meio de entrevista semiestruturada, gravada e, posteriormente, transcrita na íntegra. Para análise dos dados, utilizou-se a análise de conteúdo do tipo temática, proposta por Minayo. Foram respeitados os princípios éticos em saúde, conforme a Resolução do Conselho Nacional de Saúde n° 466/2012. O projeto de pesquisa foi aprovado pelo Comitê de Ética em Pesquisa da Universidade do Oeste de Santa Catarina, sob Parecer número 1.968.812. Resultados: a partir da análise emergiram duas categorias temáticas, sendo que, neste artigo, será apresentada a categoria temática – Concepções e práticas de enfermeiros no cuidado aos pacientes paliativos e família, onde se observa que, além das medidas de conforto e alívio da dor, os enfermeiros delegam grande importância no cuidado à dimensão emocional e psicológica do paciente e família, indispensáveis ao enfrentamento do processo de terminalidade. Considerações finais: é fundamental aos enfermeiros que prestam cuidados paliativos atentar às práticas humanísticas que envolvem este tipo de cuidado, como saber ouvir, ofertar suporte e apoio, respeitar decisões, estar presente e ter empatia com o paciente e familiares. Com isso, a tríade paciente-família-enfermeiro se fortalece e encontra a melhor forma de enfrentamento diante do processo de morte e morrer.
