Resumo: The coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19) is the biggest public health emergency facing the world. Concerns vary regarding physical health, the psychological suffering that can be experienced by the general population and the elderly, considered this, the risk group with the highest number of deaths affected by the virus. The aim of the present study was to raise knowledge about the implications for the mental health of the elderly and the importance of fundamental rights in the current scenario of this pandemic. An exploratory literature review was carried out based on some reports from academics at the University of Maturity in Dianópolis-TO. Finally, some challenges for the practice of psychologists during and after the pandemic were discussed.

Las inquietudes varían en cuanto a la salud física, el sufrimiento psicológico que puede experimentar la población en general y los ancianos, considerado este, el grupo de riesgo con mayor número de muertes afectadas por el virus. El objetivo del presente estudio fue generar conocimiento sobre las implicaciones para la salud mental de las personas mayores y la importancia de los derechos fundamentales en el escenario actual de esta pandemia. Se realizó una revisión exploratoria de la literatura a partir de algunos informes de académicos de la Universidad de la Madurez en Dianópolis-TO. Finalmente, se discutieron algunos desafíos para la práctica de los psicólogos durante y después de la pandemia.A pandemia do coronavírus (COVID-19) é a maior emergência que a saúde pública enfrenta mundialmente. As preocupações variam quanto à saúde física, o sofrimento psicológico que pode ser vivenciado pela população em geral e pelos idosos, considerado este, o grupo de risco com o maior número de mortos afetados pelo vírus. O objetivo do presente estudo foi de levantar conhecimentos sobre as implicações na saúde mental dos idosos e a importância dos direitos fundamentais diante do atual cenário dessa pandemia. Foi realizada uma revisão de literatura de caráter exploratório baseado em alguns relatos dos acadêmicos da Universidade da Maturidade de Dianópolis-TO.
