Resumo: This article is an excerpt from a thesis that argues that nursing students select nursing interventions based on a fundamental patterns of knowledge in nursing. The objectives were: to identify and classify the predominantly personal knowledge that undergraduate students use to select nursing interventions. It is a descriptive, exploratory study with a qualitative approach, outlined by the Fundamental Patterns of Knowledge in Carper's Nursing. The chosen scenario was a nursing higher education school from a public university in Rio de Janeiro. Ten students from the sixth period participated. Data were collected through non-participatory observation and semi-structured interviews and, subsequently, submitted to content analysis. The results were categorized as follows: 'I know what I know? ’' Do I do what I know?’. It can be concluded that the patterns of personal knowledge was one of the pillars used by students to select the nursing interventions necessary to serve the person they care for.

Los objetivos fueron: identificar y clasificar el conocimiento predominantemente personal que los estudiantes de pregrado utilizan para seleccionar intervenciones de enfermería. Este es un estudio exploratorio descriptivo con un enfoque cualitativo, delineado por los Estándares Fundamentales del Conocimiento en Enfermería de Carper. El escenario elegido fue una escuela de enfermería de educación superior de una universidad pública de Río de Janeiro. Participaron diez estudiantes del sexto período. Los datos fueron recolectados a través de observación no participativa y entrevistas semiestructuradas y, posteriormente, sometidos a análisis de contenido. Los resultados se clasificaron de la siguiente manera: "¿Sé lo que sé?""¿Hago lo que sé?". Se puede concluir que el estándar de conocimiento personal fue uno de los pilares utilizados por los estudiantes para seleccionar las intervenciones de enfermería necesarias para conocer a la persona que cuidan.O presente artigo é um recorte de uma tese que defende que os alunos de enfermagem selecionam as intervenções de enfermagem a partir dos padrões fundamentais do conhecimento em enfermagem. Os objetivos foram: identificar e classificar os conhecimentos predominantemente pessoais que os estudantes de graduação utilizam para selecionar as intervenções de enfermagem. Trata-se de um estudo descritivo, exploratório, com abordagem qualitativa, delineado pelos Padrões Fundamentais do Conhecimento em Enfermagem de Carper. O cenário escolhido foi uma escola de ensino superior de enfermagem de uma universidade pública no Rio de Janeiro. Participaram 10 alunos do sexto período. Os dados foram coletados através de uma observação não participativa e uma entrevista semiestruturada e, posteriormente, submetidos à análise de conteúdo. Os resultados foram categorizados da seguinte forma: 'Eu sei o que eu sei?’ 'Eu faço o que eu sei?’.
