Resumo: The most likely successors of today's family businesses – the young people from Generation Y, which includes those born between 1982 and the year 2000 – have several specificities in their way of seeing and experiencing the world, which are directly affected by the context. current cultural and socioeconomic. The objective of this work was to analyze the challenges of Generation Y in the family succession process of micro and small companies located in the metropolitan region of São Paulo. The methodology used was an exploratory, qualitative case study of ten family businesses that have gone through or will go through the succession process involving young people from Generation Y. The analysis of the material, in turn, was anchored in the methodology of Analysis of Content by the author Bardin (1997) and in the qualitative material analysis software NVIVO. The results showed that the succession process in MSEs presents challenges that include the lack of preparation of successors, lack of motivation and the emergence of family conflicts directly influenced by the absence of a previously outlined strategic plan.

El análisis del material, a su vez, estuvo anclado en la metodología de Análisis de Contenido del autor Bardin (1997) y en el software de análisis de material cualitativo NVIVO. Los resultados mostraron que el proceso de sucesión en las Mipymes presenta desafíos que incluyen la falta de preparación de los sucesores, la falta de motivación y el surgimiento de conflictos familiares directamente influenciados por la ausencia de un plan estratégico previamente delineado.Os sucessores mais prováveis de empresas familiares da atualidade – os jovens da Geração Y, que compreende os nascidos entre os anos de 1982 até o ano 2000 – apresentam diversas especificidades em sua forma de ver e experienciar o mundo, as quais são diretamente afetadas pelo contexto cultural e socioeconômico vigente. O objetivo deste trabalho foi analisar os desafios da Geração Y no processo sucessório familiar de micro e pequenas empresas localizadas na região metropolitana de São Paulo. A metodologia utilizada foi um Estudo de Caso, de tipo exploratório e caráter qualitativo, de dez empresas familiares que passaram ou vão passar pelo processo sucessório envolvendo jovens da Geração Y. A análise do material, por sua vez, foi ancorada na metodologia de Análise de Conteúdo da autora Bardin (1997) e no software de análise de material qualitativo NVIVO.
