Resumo: | It sought to identify the different profiles of family farmers in the southern region of the state of Rio Grande do Sul by grouping their demographic and socioeconomic characteristics and their levels of satisfaction with farming. The quantitative study with cross-sectional design was conducted through 104 household interviews via structured questionnaire, with 'snowball' technique, in the period from September 2018 to February 2019. Descriptive statistics, analysis of variance and cluster analysis were employed. Three different clusters were identified defined by the variables: satisfaction with farming, type of housing, income, length of stay in farming and level of education. The cluster of family farmers satisfied with agriculture is composed of a greater number of men. These farmers reside in their own house, have longer time working in agriculture and lower average monthly family income in relation to the others. The study demonstrated the need for more research on the subject so that it is possible to propose public policies that address the increase in quality of life and the permanence of the family farmer in the field. |

El estudio cuantitativo con diseño transversal se llevó a cabo mediante 104 entrevistas a hogares a través de un cuestionario estructurado, con la técnica de "bola de nieve", en el período comprendido entre septiembre de 2018 y febrero de 2019. Se emplearon estadísticas descriptivas, análisis de varianza y análisis de conglomerados. Se identificaron tres conglomerados diferentes definidos por las variables: satisfacción con la agricultura, tipo de vivienda, ingresos, tiempo de permanencia en la agricultura y nivel de educación. El grupo de agricultores familiares satisfechos con la agricultura está compuesto por un mayor número de hombres. Estos agricultores residen en su propia casa, llevan más tiempo trabajando en la agricultura y tienen unos ingresos familiares medios inferiores a los de los demás. El estudio demostró la necesidad de más investigaciones sobre el tema para que sea posible proponer políticas públicas que atiendan el aumento de la calidad de vida y la permanencia del agricultor familiar en el campo.Buscou-se identificar os diferentes perfis de agricultores familiares da região sul do estado do Rio Grande do Sul através do agrupamento de suas características demográficas, socioeconômicas e seus níveis de satisfação com a agricultura. O estudo quantitativo com delineamento transversal foi realizado através de 104 entrevistas domiciliares via questionário estruturado, com técnica ‘snowball’, no período de setembro de 2018 a fevereiro de 2019. Estatísticas descritivas, análise de variância e análise de cluster foram empregadas. Foram identificados três diferentes clusters definidos pelas variáveis: satisfação com a agricultura, tipo de moradia, renda, tempo de permanência na agricultura e nível de escolaridade. O cluster de agricultores familiares satisfeitos com a agricultura é composto por maior número de homens. Esses agricultores residem em casa própria, apresentam maior tempo de trabalho na agricultura e menor renda familiar mensal média em relação aos demais.
