Interfaces between abusive use of psychoactive substances, presence of comorbidities, and suicide risk

Resumo: We aimed to analyze suicide risk in psychoactive substances users through the presence of comorbidities. This is an exploratory-descriptive research with quantitative approach developed in a municipality of the 11th Health Regional of Ceará State. Instruments used for data collection were formulary for sociodemographic characterization, clinical aspects, and pattern of consumption; Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9), and Suicide Risk Index (SRI). Results point out that most users 51,1% presents the F19 diagnosis, mental and behavioral disorders due to use of multiple psychoactive substances. In 24,4% was detected psychiatric comorbidities, and in 33,3% were identified clinical comorbidities. 55,6% of users presented depression episodes. As for the suicide risk index, 55,6% presented intermediate risk, and 20% high risk. The findings reinforce the importance of investigating psychiatric comorbidities presence in users of psychoactive substances, and its relationship with suicide risks. Such an evaluation will contribute to more effective interventions in the health care process.

Se trata de una investigación con abordaje cuantitativo de carácter exploratorio descriptivo realizada en un municipio da 11° Regional de Salud de Ceará. Los instrumentos utilizados para la recolección de datos fueron formulario sociodemográfico, clínico y patrón de consumo; Escala para evaluación de depresión (PHQ-9) e Índice de Riesgo de Suicidio (IRIS). Los resultados indican que la mayoría de los usuarios 51,1% presentan el diagnóstico F19, trastornos mentales y comportamentales debidos al uso de múltiples sustancias psicoactivas. En 24,4% fueron detectadas comorbilidades psiquiátricas y en 33,3% fueron constatadas comorbilidades clínicas.  55,6% de los usuarios presentaron episodios de depresión. En cuanto al índice de riesgo de suicidio, 55,6% presentaron riesgo intermediario y 20% riesgo alto. Los resultados refuerzan la importancia de la investigación sobre la presencia de comorbilidades psiquiátricas en usuarios de sustancias psicoactivas y su relación con los riesgos de suicidio. Esta evaluación contribuirá para intervenciones más efectivas en el proceso de cuidado en salud.Objetivou-se analisar o risco de suicídio em usuários de substâncias psicoativas mediantes a presença de comorbidades. Trata-se de uma pesquisa com abordagem quantitativa de caráter exploratório-descritivo realizada em um município da 11° Regional de Saúde do Ceará.  Os instrumentos utilizados para coleta de dados foram formulário sóciodemográfico, clínico e padrão de consumo; Escala para avaliação de depressão (PHQ-9) e o Índice de RIsco de Suicídio (IRIS). Os resultados apontam que a maioria dos usuários 51,1% apresenta o diagnóstico F19, transtornos mentais e comportamentais devidos ao uso de múltiplas substâncias psicoativas. Em 24,4% foi detectado comorbidades psiquiátrica e em 33,3% foi constatado comorbidades clínicas.  55,6% dos usuários apresentaram episódios de depressão. Quanto ao índice de risco de suicídio, 55,6% apresentaram risco intermediário e 20% risco alto. Os achados reforçam a importância da investigação da presença de comorbidades psiquiátricas em usuários de substancias psicoativas e sua relação com os riscos de suicídio.
