Resumo: The objective of this work was to verify the antibacterial activity of nanoemulsion with essential oil (EO) of cinnamon (Cinamomum cassia), as a mouthwash. Two formulations of mouthwash containing cinnamon EO were developed for the preparation of nanoemulsions with two types of surfactants, Tween 80 and soy lecithin. Treatments were compared with chlorhexidine (control) for Minimum Inhibitory and Bactericidal Concentrations (MIC and MBC, respectively), synergism between treatments and kinetics of antimicrobial activity against Streptococcus mutans, in addition to quantifying the substantivity of the treatments. Together, the chemical characterization of cinnamon EO and the characterization of the nanoemulsions were carried out. The nanoemulsions showed antimicrobial activity in the MIC and CBM of 0.625 mg mL-1 against Streptococcus mutans and 0.01 mg mL-1 of chlorhexidine and no synergism was detected between each cinnamon EO nanoemulsion and chlorhexidine. Comparing the efficiency of nanoemulsions with 0.12% chlorhexidine in quantifying substantivity, there was no significant difference between treatments.

Research, Society and Development2022-03-20info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttps://rsdjournal.org/index.php/rsd/article/view/2631410.33448/rsd-v11i4.26314Research, Society and Development; Vol. 11 No. 4; e33211426314Research, Society and Development; Vol. 11 Núm. 4; e33211426314Research, Society and Development; v. 11 n. 4; e332114263142525-3409reponame:Research, Society and Developmentinstname:Universidade Federal de Itajubá (UNIFEI)instacron:UNIFEIporhttps://rsdjournal.org/index.php/rsd/article/view/26314/23962Copyright (c) 2022 Daniella Londero Silva Batisti; Ricardo Botelho Camargo; Viviane Krominski Graça de Souza; José Renato Pattaro Júnior; José Eduardo Gonçalves; Cristiane Mengue Feniman Moritzhttps://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessBatisti, Daniella Londero Silva Camargo, Ricardo Botelho Souza, Viviane Krominski Graça de Pattaro Júnior, José Renato Gonçalves, José Eduardo Moritz, Cristiane Mengue Feniman 2022-03-27T17:17:09Zoai:ojs.pkp.sfu.ca:article/26314Revistahttps://rsdjournal.org/index.php/rsd/indexPUBhttps://rsdjournal.org/index.php/rsd/oairsd.articles@gmail.com2525-34092525-3409opendoar:2024-01-17T09:44:23.328110Research, Society and Development - Universidade Federal de Itajubá (UNIFEI)false
