The influence of spirituality in chronic kidneys in hemodialytic treatment: an integrative review

Resumo: Objective: The sufferings arising from chronic renal failure affects (CRF) are multiple and harmful. Along with this finding, spiritual practices reduce the negative effects resulting from CRF, as well as stimulate the production of more optimistic expectations during the treatment of this disease. Thus, this work is structured around the following question: what are the benefits of spirituality for adult patients with chronic kidney disease undergoing hemodialysis? The general objective was to investigate the benefits of the spiritual approach for people with chronic kidney disease undergoing hemodialysis. Method: The method consisted of an integrative review by consulting the following databases: BVS, LILACS and Pubmed. As inclusion criteria, articles published in the last five years in Portuguese, English and Spanish were considered. The search strategy was as follows: chronic renal failure AND spirituality AND adult health. Results: 22 articles were selected, which contain information on the application of spirituality by chronic kidney patients undergoing hemodialysis in several countries. The acquisition of the obtained data signaled the adoption of practices such as hypnosis, meditation, yoga, prayers and Reiki. Conclusions: Spirituality has provided an improvement in the perception of the quality of life of individuals with chronic kidney disease undergoing hemodialysis. However, it is noted that there is a scarcity of research on the subject. The change in this condition will contribute so that the relevance of the spiritual focus in the daily life of health care networks can be definitively and deeply rooted.

Junto con este hallazgo, las prácticas espirituales reducen los efectos negativos derivados de la IRC, así como estimulan la producción de expectativas más optimistas durante el tratamiento de esta enfermedad. Así, este trabajo se estructura en torno a la siguiente pregunta: ¿ cuáles son los benefícios de la espiritualidad para los pacientes adultos con enfermedad renal crónica en hemodiálisis? El objetivo general fue investigar los beneficios del abordaje espiritual para personas con enfermedad renal crónica en hemodiálises. Método: El método consistió en una revisión integradora mediante la consulta de las siguientes bases de datos: BVS, LILACS y Pubmed. Como criterios de inclusión, se consideraron artículos publicados en los últimos cinco años, en portugués, inglés y español. La estrategia de búsqueda fue la siguiente: insuficiencia renal crónica AND espiritualidad AND Salud del adulto.  Resultados: Se seleccionaron 22 artículos, que contienen información sobre la aplicación de la espiritualidad por parte de pacientes con enfermedad renal crónica en hemodiálisis en vários países. La adquisición de los datos obtenidos señaló la adopción de prácticas como hipnosis, meditación, yoga, oración y Reiki. Conclusiones: La espiritualidad ha mejorado la percepción de calidad de vida en pacientes con enfermedad renal crónica en hemodiálisis. Sin embargo, se advierte que existe una escassez de investigaciones sobre el tema. El cambio de esta condición contribuirá a que se arraigue de manera definitiva y profunda la relevancia del enfoque espiritual en el cotidiano de las redes de atención a la salud.  Objetivo: Os sofrimentos advindos da insuficiência renal crônica (IRC) são múltiplos e prejudiciais. Junto a essa constatação, as práticas espirituais reduzem os efeitos negativos decorrentes da IRC, assim como estimulam a produção de expectativas mais otimistas durante o tratamento dessa doença. Desse modo, esse trabalho se estrutura sob a seguinte indagação: quais são os benefícios da espiritualidade para os pacientes adultos renais crônicos em tratamento hemodialítico? O objetivo geral foi investigar quais os benefícios do enfoque espiritual para as pessoas renais crônicas em tratamento hemodialítico. Método: O método consistiu numa revisão integrativa por meio de consulta às seguintes bases de dados: BVS, LILACS e Pubmed. Como critérios de inclusão, foram considerados artigos publicados nos últimos cinco anos, nos idiomas português, inglês e espanhol. A estratégia de busca foi a seguinte: Insuficiência renal crônica AND Espiritualidade AND Saúde do adulto. Resultados: Foram selecionados 22 artigos, os quais contêm informações sobre a aplicação da espiritualidade por pacientes renais crônicos em tratamento hemodialítico em diversos países. A aquisição dos dados obtidos assinalou a adoção de práticas como hipnose, meditação, ioga, oração e Reiki. Conclusões: A espiritualidade tem proporcionado melhora na percepção da qualidade de vida dos indivíduos renais crônicos em tratamento hemodialítico. Contudo, nota-se que há uma escassez de pesquisas sobre a temática.
