Resumo: Waste materials generated by mining have been mostly stored in dams or stockpiles, generating high costs for its management. The present work aimed, firstly, to verify the amenability of mining wastes as a raw material for the glass production, and to economically evaluate their use, citing the main features of the manufacture of glass, and simulating the implementation of a glass factory, meeting public policy guidelines for the use of solid waste. In a first stage, prospective laboratory tests, based on the literature review, showed the technical feasibility of using mining residues from the Ouro Preto region (MG, Brazil) for the manufacture of glass. Next, an expeditious appraisal of a silica-lime-soda glass factory was made for two production scenarios, namely: 15 t/day and 400 t/day. It is concluded by the economic viability of this type of enterprise, which, however, requires a large investment of capital, proving to be very valuable the support of government development agencies for its implementation.

Este estudio tuvo como objetivo, en primer lugar, verificar la aptitud de los residuos mineros como materia prima para la producción de vidrio, y evaluar económicamente su uso, citando las principales características de la fabricación de vidrio, y simulando la implementación de una fábrica de vidrio, reuniendo lineamientos de política pública para el aprovechamiento de los residuos sólidos. En una primera etapa, experimentos prospectivos de laboratorio, basados en la revisión de la literatura, demostraron la factibilidad técnica de utilizar residuos mineros de la región de Ouro Preto (MG, Brasil) para la fabricación de vidrio ordinario. A continuación, se realizó un avalúo expedito de una fábrica de vidrio de sílice-cal-soda para dos escenarios de producción, a saber: 15 t/día y 400 t/día. Se concluye por la viabilidad económica de este tipo de emprendimiento, que, sin embargo, requiere de una gran inversión de capital, resultando muy valioso el apoyo de las agencias gubernamentales de desarrollo para su implementación.Os resíduos gerados pela mineração tem sido majoritariamente estocados em barragens ou pilhas, gerando altos custos para sua gestão. O presente trabalho teve o intuito de, primeiramente, verificar a adequação de resíduos de mineração como matéria-prima para produção de vidro e avaliar economicamente o seu emprego, citando as principais características do fabrico do vidro, e simulando a implantação de uma fábrica de vidro, no âmbito de políticas públicas de aproveitamento de resíduos sólidos. Num primeiro estágio, ensaios prospectórios de laboratório, com base na revisão da literatura, mostraram a exequibilidade técnica do emprego de resíduos de mineração da região de Ouro Preto (MG, Brasil) para o fabrico de vidro. A seguir foi feita uma orçamentação expedita de fábrica de elaboração de vidro sílica-cal-soda para dois cenário produtivos, a saber: de 15 t/dia e 400 t/dia.
