Ozoniotherapy in the treatment of wounds and diseases in veterinary medicine: literature review

Resumo: Ozone's principles are to increase tissue oxygenation and, consequently, it has been studied in a deeper and more scientific way, in order to propose new protocols for complementary treatments in the most diverse diseases. At present, it has shown a positive action in acute and chronic infectious diseases caused by viruses, bacteria and fungi, in burns, ulcers, among others. Ozone therapy is increasingly studied and applied in order to assist in the various treatments of diseases in veterinary medicine. The main objective of this work was to describe the use of ozone in Veterinary Medicine, its therapeutic indication, mechanism of action, application methods, side effects and contraindications. For this, it was used as a literature review methodology, involving an extensive verification of scientific articles, aiming to describe the new discoveries in the ways of using ozone therapy. It is concluded that more detailed studies are still needed to discuss this form of therapy, thus clarifying the methodologies of its formation and proving more benefits. However, it was observed that it is a great alternative in veterinary medicine for wound healing and treatment of various diseases.

En la actualidad ha mostrado una acción positiva en enfermedades infecciosas agudas y crónicas causadas por virus, bacterias y hongos, en quemaduras, úlceras, entre otras. La ozonoterapia es cada vez más estudiada y aplicada para ayudar en los diversos tratamientos de enfermedades en medicina veterinaria. El objetivo principal de este trabajo fue describir el uso del ozono en Medicina Veterinaria, su indicación terapéutica, mecanismo de acción, métodos de aplicación, efectos secundarios y contraindicaciones. Para ello, se utilizó como metodología de revisión bibliográfica, involucrando una extensa verificación de artículos científicos, con el objetivo de describir los nuevos descubrimientos en las formas de utilización de la ozonoterapia. Se concluye que aún se necesitan estudios más detallados para discutir esta forma de terapia, aclarando así las metodologías de su formación y demostrando más beneficios. Sin embargo, se observó que es una gran alternativa en medicina veterinaria para la cicatrización de heridas y tratamiento de diversas enfermedades.O ozônio tem como princípios aumentar a oxigenação tecidual e consequentemente vem sendo estudado de forma mais profunda e científica, a fim de propor novos protocolos de tratamentos complementares nas mais diversas enfermidades. No presente, tem apresentando uma ação positiva em doenças infecciosas agudas e crônicas causadas por vírus, bactérias e fungos, em queimaduras, úlceras, entre de outras. A ozonioterapia cada vez mais é estudada e aplicada com intuito de auxiliar nos diversos tratamentos de enfermidades na medicina veterinária. Este trabalho teve como principal objetivo, descrever o uso do ozônio na Medicina Veterinária, sua indicação terapêutica, mecanismo de ação, métodos de aplicação, efeitos colaterais e contraindicações. Para isso utilizou-se como metodologia de revisão de literatura, envolvendo uma extensa verificação de artigos científicos, objetivando descrever as novas descobertas nas formas de utilização da ozonioterapia. Conclui-se que ainda se necessita de estudos mais detalhados para discutir sobre essa forma de terapia, esclarecendo assim as metodologias de sua formação e comprovar mais benefícios.
