Design and education: cultural mediation in the preservation of the brazilian heritage

Resumo: This article aims to analyze the role of design and education as cultural mediation in the preservation of Brazilian heritage. It is a study with a qualitative approach of the bibliographic and descriptive type, dialogues with the interface of knowledge of design, education, mediation and demonstrates its relationship with the preservation of national cultural heritage. It presents the following guidelines: Venice Charter, 1964; Restoration Letter, 1972; and Carta de Burra, 1980, to exemplify the scope of international preservation applied to Brazil. Vieira Pinto, Laraia, Hall and Freire were the basis for this study, as well dissertations from the CAPES database. This focus made it possible to place the research within the scope of the scientific needs of the reality of design and education. The study was guided by the following questions, “How can design contribute to the appreciation of cultural heritage?” and “What is the relationship between design and heritage education as cultural mediation?”. Thus, heritage charters linked to Institute of National Historic and Artistic Heritage (IPHAN) were analyzed to identify preservation guidelines that can be applied to the Brazilian political and cultural context. In addition, there was a dialogue with the fundamentals of design and education related to mediation, valuing and preserving culture, historicity and heritage. It was concluded that by combining design with education as a cultural mediation, the discourse of preservation of national identity is fostered through the real need for research, social awareness and public policies, so that there is a projectual creation of value in the cultural educational process, for both mediate being and being in the world.

Es un estudio con enfoque cualitativo de tipo bibliográfico y descriptivo, dialoga con la interfaz de saberes del diseño, la educación, la mediación y demuestra su relación con la preservación del patrimonio cultural nacional. Presenta las siguientes directrices: Carta de Venecia, 1964; Carta de Restauración, 1972; y Carta de Burra, 1980, para ejemplificar el alcance de la preservación internacional aplicado a Brasil. Vieira Pinto, Laraia, Hall y Freire fueron la base de este estudio, así como las disertaciones de la base de datos de la CAPES. Este corte permitió situar la investigación en el ámbito de las necesidades científicas de la realidad del diseño y la educación. El estudio estuvo guiado por las siguientes preguntas, “¿Cómo puede el diseño contribuir a la apreciación del patrimonio cultural?” y “¿Cuál es la relación entre el diseño y la educación patrimonial como mediación cultural?”. Así, se analizaron las cartas patrimoniales vinculadas al Instituto del Patrimonio Histórico y Artístico Nacional (IPHAN) para identificar pautas de preservación aplicables al contexto político y cultural brasileño. Además, se dialogó con los fundamentos del diseño y la educación relacionados con la mediación, valoración y preservación de la cultura, la historicidad y el patrimonio. Se concluyó que al conjugar el diseño con la educación como mediación cultural, se fomenta el discurso de preservación de la identidad nacional a través de la necesidad real de investigación, sensibilización social y políticas públicas, para que exista una creación proyectual de valor en el proceso educativo cultural, tanto para el ser mediador como para el estar en el mundo.Este artigo objetiva analisar a atuação do design e da educação como mediação cultural na preservação do patrimônio brasileiro. É um estudo de abordagem qualitativa do tipo bibliográfica e descritiva, dialoga com interface de conhecimentos do design, educação, mediação e demonstra sua relação com a preservação do patrimônio cultural nacional. Apresenta as seguintes diretrizes: Carta de Veneza, 1964; Carta de Restauro, 1972; e Carta de Burra, 1980, para exemplificar o âmbito de preservação internacional aplicado ao Brasil. Vieira Pinto, Laraia, Hall e Freire foram as bases para este estudo, assim como dissertações do banco de dados da CAPES. Esse recorte possibilitou situar a pesquisa dentro do âmbito das necessidades científicas da realidade do design e educação. O estudo guiou-se pelos seguintes questionamentos, “Como o design pode contribuir na valorização do patrimônio cultural?” e “Qual a relação do design com a educação patrimonial como mediação cultural?”. Destarte, foram analisadas cartas patrimoniais vinculadas ao Instituto do Patrimônio Histórico e Artístico Nacional (IPHAN) para identificar diretrizes de preservação que possam ser aplicadas ao contexto político e cultural brasileiro. Além disso, dialogou-se com os fundamentos do design e da educação relacionados à mediação, valorizar e preservar a cultura, historicidade e patrimônio.
