Resumo: Although it is now recognized how relevant it is that physical education classes are taught by a qualified teacher in their field, some public and even private schools in the Early Years of Elementary School still limit physical education activities to practices considered merely delegating this responsibility to the classroom teachers, who are professionals in the area of Pedagogy. This reality is no different at the Municipal School of Elementary and Primary Education “Councilman João Gonçalves de Sousa”, located in the municipality of Marizópolis, state of Paraíba. The choice of the theme was related to the objective of the research, which was to analyze the perceptions of teachers of the early years of the referred school about the physical education classes. It is a qualitative research, more precisely a case study. As for the data, they were collected from interviews. After this phase, the data were interpreted. The findings indicate that teacher educators know the importance of the physical education teacher in the early years' classes, feel that they have a limited knowledge of the topics that need to be worked on in the classroom and admit that they give the classes a recreational character. They emphasized that the Physical Education teacher can assist in the integral development of the child by working on his / her skills and competences, making them more interactive and secure in front of their own world and the world as a whole.

They emphasized that the Physical Education teacher can assist in the integral development of the child by working on his / her skills and competences, making them more interactive and secure in front of their own world and the world as a whole.Si bien hoy se reconoce lo importante que es que las clases de educación física sean impartidas por un maestro calificado en la zona, algunas escuelas públicas e incluso privadas, en los Primeros Años de Primaria, aún limitan las actividades de educación física a prácticas consideradas meramente recreativas, delegando esta responsabilidad a los profesores encargados de las clases, que son profesionales del área de Pedagogía. Esta realidad no es diferente en la Escuela Municipal de Educación Infantil y Primaria “Concejal João Gonçalves de Sousa”, ubicada en el municipio de Marizópolis, estado de Paraíba. La elección del tema estuvo relacionada con el objetivo de la investigación, que fue analizar las percepciones de los docentes de los primeros años de esa escuela sobre las clases de educación física. Es una investigación cualitativa, más precisamente un estudio de caso. En cuanto a los datos, fueron recolectados a partir de entrevistas. Después de esta fase, se realizó la interpretación de los datos. Los hallazgos muestran que los docentes pedagogos conocen la importancia de los docentes de educación física en los primeros grados, sienten que tienen un conocimiento limitado sobre los temas que se deben trabajar en el aula y admiten que le dan a las clases un carácter lúdico. Enfatizaron que el maestro de Educación Física puede ayudar en el desarrollo integral del niño trabajando en sus habilidades y habilidades, haciéndolo más interactivo y seguro frente a su propio mundo y al mundo en su conjunto.Embora hoje se reconheça o quanto é relevante que as aulas de educação física sejam ministradas por um professor habilitado na própria área, algumas escolas públicas e até mesmo privadas, nos Anos Iniciais do Ensino Fundamental, ainda limitam as atividades de educação física a práticas consideradas meramente recreativas, delegando essa responsabilidade aos professores regentes das turmas, os quais são profissionais da área de Pedagogia. Essa realidade não é diferente na Escola Municipal de Educação Infantil e Fundamental “Vereador João Gonçalves de Sousa”, localizada no município de Marizópolis, estado da Paraíba. A escolha do tema relacionou-se com o objetivo da pesquisa que foi analisar as percepções dos professores dos anos iniciais da referida escola sobre as aulas educação física escolar. Trata-se de uma pesquisa qualitativa, mais precisamente um estudo de caso. Quanto aos dados, foram coletados a partir de entrevistas. Após essa fase, se fez a interpretação dos dados. Os achados apontam que os professores pedagogos sabem da importância do professor de educação física nas turmas dos anos iniciais, sentem que têm um conhecimento limitado em relação as temáticas que precisam ser trabalhadas em sala de aula e admitem que dão as aulas um caráter recreativo.
