Resumo: | The aim of this study was to evaluate reproductive parameters of Nellore bulls by cottonseed (CS) addition with different concentrations of free gossypol in their diet. Twenty-eight animals (from 18 to 24 months) divided into 4 treatments were used in which (T1) was represented by animals that had no addition of CS (i.e. no free gossypol); (T2) addition of 860 g of CS - 1.65 g/of free gossypol/animal/day; (T3) addition of 1.72 g of CS - 3.30 g of free gossypol /animal day and (T4) addition of 2,580 g of CS - 4,95 g of free gossypol/animal/day. Blood samples for testosterone free evaluation, semen collection and testicular consistence were performed in 30-day intervals (D0, D30, D60, D90 and D120). Semen analysis consisted of of volume, appearance, pH, whirlpool, vigor, motility, concentration (/mL and /ejaculate) and sperm morphology. Testicular analysis consisted of of scrotal circumference, length and testicular width and testicular consistency. Sterilization were performed in day 121 for histopathological analysis. Free gossypol did not interfere in free testosterone, sperm concentration, major defects, scrotal circumference and testicular width. However, whirlpool, vigor, motility and minor defects were altered. Testicular length and consistence showed difference from day 60 (p<0,05). At histopathological evaluation, cytoplasmatic granules, nuclear pyknosis, fibrosis and sperm inside the seminiferous tubules showed to be different between treatments and control (T1) (p<0,05). Based on the results, free gossypol tends to interfere in some reproductive parameters and should be used carefully in bulls’ diet. |

Fueron utilizados 28 animales (18 a 24 meses) divididos en 4 tratamientos. (T1): animales sin semilla de algodón (SA) y GL; (T2) animales que recibieron 860g de CA - 1,65g GL/animal/día; (T3) 1.720g CA - 3.30g GL/animal/día y T4 2.580g CA - 4.95g GL/animal/día. Las colectas de sangre (para evaluar testosterona libre), semen y la evaluación de la consistencia testicular se realizaron en intervalos de 30 días (D0, D30, D60, D90 y D120). Las variables analizadas en el eyaculado fueron: volumen, aspecto, pH, vigor, motilidad progresiva y en masa, concentración (/mL y /eyaculado) y morfología espermática. Se realizaron castraciones en D121 para el examen histopatológico de los testículos. El gosipol no influyó los niveles de testosterona libre, concentración espermática, defectos mayores, circunferencia escrotal y ancho testicular. Sin embargo, los niveles de gosipol influyeron en el vigor, motilidad progresiva y en masa y defectos menores. La largura testicular mostró diferencias en la textura desde D60 en Adelante (p<0,05). Histológicamente, hubo diferencias para las variables gránulos citoplasmáticos, picnosis nuclear, fibrosis y espermatozoides en los túbulos seminíferos (p<0,05). Con base en los resultados de este estudio, se concluye que el gosipol altera los patrones de consistencia testicular y los parámetros de motilidad de los espermatozoides, sin embargo, no interfiere con la testosterona libre.Este estudo avaliou os efeitos de diferentes níveis de inclusões de gossipol livre (GL) nas dietas sobre os parâmetros reprodutivos e hormonais de touros da raça Nelore. Foram utilizados 28 animais (18 a 24 meses) dividido em 4 tratamentos, onde (T1) incluiu os animais com ausência de caroço de algodão (CA) e GL; (T2) animas que receberam 860 g de CA - 1,65g/dia GL/animal/dia; (T3) 1.720 g de CA - 3,30 g GL/animal/dia e (T4) 2.580 g de CA - 4,95 g GL/animal/dia. As coletas de sangue, sêmen e a avaliação da consistência testicular foram realizados com intervalos de 30 dias (D0, D30, D60, D90 e D120). As variáveis analisadas no ejaculado foram: volume, aspecto, pH, turbilhonamento, vigor, motilidade, concentração (/mL e /ejaculado) e morfologia espermática. Os níveis séricos de testosterona livre foram obtidos através de 6 coletas de sangue iniciadas às 7 horas, com intervalos de 2 horas. Castrações foram realizadas no D121, para exames histopatológicos do testículo. O gossipol não influenciou na testosterona livre, concentração espermática, defeitos maiores, circunferência escrotal e largura testicular. No entanto, sofreram influência dos níveis de gossipol o turbilhonamento, vigor, motilidade e defeitos menores(p<0,05). O testículo apresentou diferenças na textura a partir do D60. Histologicamente, houve diferença para variáveis grânulos citoplasmáticos, picnose nuclear, fibrose e espermatozoide em túbulos seminíferos (p<0,05).
