Use of the Radiation Dose Structured Report (RDSR) in dose estimation in computed tomography

Resumo: The Structured Radiation Dose Report (SDR) allows the recording and storage of information regarding radiation exposures and doses from radiodiagnostic imaging, and therefore has been used as a tool in the estimation of doses from radiological procedures. This study performed a literature review on the conceptual aspects and applicability of the RDSR in dose estimation in patients undergoing computed tomography (CT) examinations. This is a basic research, qualitative in nature with the use of technical procedures of documentary research. Data were collected from publications, documents, supplements, and standards from the following bodies: DICOM Standards Committee; National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA), International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) and American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM). The search included publications from 2005 to 2021 with the following key terms: Radiation Dose Structured Report; Dose Data Page; Dose report sheet; Dose report page; Dose Report; Radiation Dose Reporting and Dose Estimation. The review consisted of 28 scientific publications. The information was categorized into three groups: parameters for dose estimation in CT; dose records before RDSR; and definition and application of RDSR. The RDSR allows the standardized storage of information regarding radiation exposure, the tool stands out for its organization and reliability for dose estimation.

Este estudio realiza una revisión de la literatura sobre los aspectos conceptuales y la aplicabilidad de la RDSR en la estimación de la dosis en pacientes sometidos a exámenes de tomografía computarizada (TC). Se trata de una investigación básica y cualitativa con la utilización de procedimientos técnicos de investigación documental. Los datos se han recopilado a partir de publicaciones, documentos, suplementos y normas de los siguientes organismos: Comité de Normas DICOM; Asociación Nacional de Fabricantes Eléctricos (NEMA), Comisión Electrotécnica Internacional (IEC) y Asociación Americana de Físicos en Medicina (AAPM). La búsqueda incluyó publicaciones desde 2005 hasta 2021 con los siguientes términos clave: Radiation Dose Structured Report; Dose Data Page; Dose report sheet; Dose report page; Dose Report; Radiation Dose Reporting and Dose Estimation. La revisión consistió en 28 publicaciones científicas. La información se clasificó en tres grupos: parámetros para la estimación de la dosis en TC; registros de dosis antes de la RDSR; y definición y aplicación de la RDSR. El RDSR permite el almacenamiento estandarizado de la información relativa a la exposición a la radiación, la herramienta destaca por su organización y fiabilidad para la estimación de la dosis.O Relatório Estruturado de Dose de Radiação (RDSR) permite a gravação e o armazenamento das informações relativas às exposições e doses de radiação do radiodiagnóstico, e por isso tem sido utilizado como ferramenta nas estimativas das doses decorrentes de procedimentos radiológicos. Este estudo realizou uma revisão da literatura acerca dos aspectos conceituais e a aplicabilidade do RDSR na estimativa de dose em pacientes submetidos a exames de tomografia computadorizada (TC). Trata-se de uma pesquisa de natureza básica, com caráter qualitativo com o uso dos procedimentos técnicos da pesquisa documental. Os dados foram coletados a partir de publicações, documentos, suplementos e normas dos seguintes órgãos: DICOM Standards Committee; National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA), International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) e American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM). A pesquisa incluiu publicações de 2005 a 2021 com os seguintes termos chaves: Radiation Dose Structured Report; Dose Data Page; Dose report sheet; Dose report page; Dose Report; Radiation Dose Reporting e Dose Estimation. A revisão foi constituída de 28 publicações científicas.
