Analysis of vaccine coverage and cases of hepatitis B in the State of Pará

Resumo: | Objective: To analyze the geospatial distribution of hepatitis B virus (HBV) in the State of Pará, Brazil, from 2010 to 2020 relating to hepatites B vaccination. Methodology: In this descriptive and cross-sectional work, data from the Information System of Notifiable Diseases, the Ministry of Health (MH) and the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics were used. Results: The number of hospitalizations for HBV was decreasing from 2014 to 2018 and increased again in 2019 and 2020. Metropolitan Region I – Ananindeua, Belém, Benevides, Marituba e Santa Barbara do Pará – concentrated most of the notifications with high incidence of the cases in Belém and Ananindeua. Inside, the city of Redenção and Santarém also registered large number of notifications. Alenquer, Paragominas and Barcarena stand out for the higher mortality rate. Concomitantly, Pará is one of the states with the lowest vaccination coverage against Hepatitis B, being below the target of vaccine coverage since 2012. It is noteworthy in this scenario, that a little more than 20% of the 144 municipalities in the state are within the target established by the MH, especially the Marajó Health Region with the lowest vaccination coverage rate in the state. Conclusion: The low vaccination coverage and the results of the health indicators of hepatitis B showed a serious problem regarding public health in the state of Pará. Since the maintenance of immunization levels below the recommended in Pará presents a potential risk of interfering with the increase in cases, hospitalizations and deaths resulting from HBV. |

Metodología: En este trabajo descriptivo y transversal, se utilizaron datos del Sistema de Información de Agravos de Notificación, del Ministerio de Salud (MS) y del Instituto Brasileño de Geografía y Estadística. Resultados: El número de internaciones por hepatitis B estaba en caída de 2014 a 2018 y volvió a crecer en 2019 y 2020. La región Metropolitana I – Ananindeua, Belém, Benevides, Marituba e Santa Barbara do Pará – concentró la mayoría de las notificaciones con gran incidencia de los casos en Belém y Ananindeua. En el interior, la ciudad de Redenção y Santarém también registraron grandes cantidades de notificaciones. Alenquer, Paragominas y Barcarena destacan por el mayor índice de mortalidad. Al mismo tiempo, Pará es uno de los estados con menor cobertura vacunal contra Hepatitis B, estando desde 2012 por debajo de la meta de cobertura vacunal. Se destaca en este escenario, que un poco más del 20% de los 144 municipios del estado están dentro de la meta establecida por el MS, con destaque para la Región de Salud del Marajó con el menor índice de cobertura vacunal del Estado. Conclusión: la baja cobertura vacunal y los resultados de los indicadores de salud de la hepatitis B demostraron un serio problema en lo que concierne a la salud pública del estado de Pará. Dado que el mantenimiento de los niveles de inmunización por debajo de lo preconizado en el Pará presenta potencial riesgo de interferir para aumento en los casos, internaciones y fallecimientos resultantes del HBV.Objetivo: Analisar a distribuição geoespacial dos vírus da hepatite B (HBV) no Estado do Pará, Brasil, de 2010 a 2020 relacionando com os dados à vacinação contra a hepatite B. Metodologia: Neste trabalho descritivo e transversal, foram utilizados dados do Sistema de Informação de Agravos de Notificação, do Ministério da Saúde (MS) e do Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatística. Resultados: O número de internações por HBV estava em queda de 2014 a 2018 e voltou a crescer em 2019 e 2020.
