Prevalence of self-medication among people in a pharmacy in the countryside of Paraná

Resumo: Self-medication represents the indiscriminate use of medicines without guidance or supervision from a qualified professional. Medicines are essential for health, contributing to the treatment of countless pathologies when used rationally. Thus, the objective of this article is to analyze the prevalence in which self-medication occurs, verifying the most used drugs. For this, a survey was carried out descriptive and quantitative research was carried out through the analysis of data collected in a questionnaire applied in a private pharmacy, located in the western region of Paraná. A total of 50 questionnaires were completed, the largest number of participants was female, 28 (56%), while 22 (44%) were male. With regard to self-medication due to influences, the fact that participants had the medication at home, 21 (42%), was highlighted, followed by the leftover medication due to incomplete treatment 19 (38%), equated with indications from family and friends, and finally, the media totaling 3 (6%). Regarding the health problems that led to self-medication, the lowest rate was for back pain with 11 people (22%) and the highest, for headaches, 37 people (74%). As for the most used drugs, dipyrone stood out, with 36 people using it (72%) and paracetamol, with 32 people (64%). Self-medication was common in the population studied due to the ease of access and numerous influencing factors.

Los medicamentos son esenciales para la salud, contribuyendo al tratamiento de inumerables patologías cuando se utilizan de forma racional. Asi, el objetivo de este artículo es analizar la prevalência em que ocorre la automedicación, verificando los fármacos más utilizados. Para ello, se realizo uma encuesta descriptiva y cuantitativa a través del análisis de los datos recogidos en un cuestionario aplicado en una farmacia privada, ubicada en la región occidental de Paraná. Se completaron un total de 50 cuestionarios, el mayor número de participantes fueron mujeres, 28 (56%), mientras que 22 (44%) fueron hombres. En cuanto a la automedicación por influencias, se destacó el hecho de que los participantes tuvieran la medicación en casa, 21 (42%), seguida de la medicación sobrante por tratamiento incompleto 19 (38%), equiparado a indicaciones de familiares y amigos, y por último, los medios de comunicación que suman 3 (6%). En cuanto a los problemas de salud que llevaron a la automedicación, la tasa más baja fue por dolor de espalda con 11 personas (22%) y la más alta, por cefalea, 37 personas (74%). En cuanto a las drogas más consumidas, se destacaron la dipirona, con 36 personas usándola (72%) y el paracetamol, con 32 personas (64%). La automedicación fue común en la población estudiada debido a la facilidad de acceso y numerosos factores que influyen.A automedicação representa o uso indiscriminado de medicamentos sem orientação ou supervisão de um profissional habilitado. Os medicamentos são essenciais para a saúde, contribuindo para o tratamento de incontáveis patologias quando utilizados de forma racional. Assim, o objetivo desse artigo é analisar a prevalência em que ocorre a automedicação, verificando os medicamentos mais utilizados. Para isso, realizou-se uma pesquisa descritiva e quantitativa por meio de análise de dados coletados em questionário aplicado em uma farmácia privada, localizada na região Oeste do Paraná. Foram preenchidos uma totalidade de 50 questionários, o maior número de participantes pertencia ao sexo feminino 28 (56%), a medida que 22 (44%) eram do sexo masculino. No que se refere à automedicação devido às influências, foram destacados o fato dos participantes possuírem os medicamentos em casa, 21 (42%), em seguida a sobra de medicamentos por tratamento incompleto 19 (38%), igualado com indicação de familiares e amigos, e por fim, a mídia totalizando 3 (6%). Com relação aos problemas de saúde a qual acarretou a automedicação, o menor índice foi para dores nas costas com 11 pessoas (22%) e o maior, por dores de cabeça, pessoas 37(74%). Quanto aos medicamentos mais utilizados destacou-se a dipirona, com 36 pessoas fazendo uso (72%) e o paracetamol, com 32 pessoas (64%).
