Resumo: There is a concern about the nickel-titanium (NiTi-)-based wires due their content and potential release of nickel, mainly when they are exposed to fluoride. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate the roughness of NiTi-based wires used in orthodontic treatment when exposed to fluoridated solution. The wires were divided in groups according their composition (Flexy NiTi Super Elastic, Flexy NiTi Thermal 35°, Flexy NiTi Copper e Flexy Blue-Ti), time (0 day – T0, 7 days – T1, 14 days – T2, and 28 days – T3) and immersion (artificial saliva solution or artificial saliva containing fluoride). To the roughness assay, straight sections (24 mm) of each wire were used, under constant speed of 0.25 mm/s, measurement length of 2.5 mm and cut-off value of 0.25 mm. The value of surface roughness was obtained by the average of three measurements of each wire. To check data normality the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test was applied, followed by analysis of variance to compare the difference between time and Student t-test to compare the difference of time to each group and intergroup. There was no statistically significant difference of the roughness intra- and intergroup between different composition, time nor immersion. The use of 0.2% fluoride once a week did not cause significant changes in the surface characteristics of studied wires.

The use of 0.2% fluoride once a week did not cause significant changes in the surface characteristics of studied wires. Research, Society and Development2020-11-04info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttps://rsdjournal.org/index.php/rsd/article/view/948010.33448/rsd-v9i11.9480Research, Society and Development; Vol. 9 No. 11; e559119480Research, Society and Development; Vol. 9 Núm. 11; e559119480Research, Society and Development; v. 9 n. 11; e5591194802525-3409reponame:Research, Society and Developmentinstname:Universidade Federal de Itajubá (UNIFEI)instacron:UNIFEIporhttps://rsdjournal.org/index.php/rsd/article/view/9480/8525Copyright (c) 2020 Lucineide Lima dos Santos; Eloisa Aparecida Carlesse Paloco; Sandrine Bittencourt Berger; Flaviana Alves Dias; Débora Fernandes Giuliangeli; Júlia Graciela Monteiro dos Santos; Lucia Gloria Diana Aguilar Pizzurno; Ricardo Danil Guiraldohttps://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessSantos, Lucineide Lima dos Paloco, Eloisa Aparecida CarlesseBerger, Sandrine BittencourtDias, Flaviana AlvesGiuliangeli, Débora FernandesSantos, Júlia Graciela Monteiro dos Pizzurno, Lucia Gloria Diana AguilarGuiraldo, Ricardo Danil2020-12-10T23:37:57Zoai:ojs.pkp.sfu.ca:article/9480Revistahttps://rsdjournal.org/index.php/rsd/indexPUBhttps://rsdjournal.org/index.php/rsd/oairsd.articles@gmail.com2525-34092525-3409opendoar:2024-01-17T09:31:45.088597Research, Society and Development - Universidade Federal de Itajubá (UNIFEI)false
