Nutritional strategies in the treatment of diabetes mellitus: bibliographic review

Resumo: The present study aims to show the effects of a diet therapy intervention on type 1 and 2 diabetes mellitus, through a literature review. As a qualitative review this work used as bibliographic sources scientific articles were explored in the databases (PubMed), (SciELO), (LILACS) and (ScienceDirect) using the Descriptors in Health Sciences (DeCS): “Diabetes Mellitus”. , “Diet Therapy”, “Nutritional Needs” or their English equivalents. In total, 14 articles met the methodological criteria and had their results tabulated for better analysis and understanding. Most of the articles showed that the improvement in diabetes patients is associated with a healthy diet in which macronutrients are evenly divided. It was concluded that patients with diabetes mellitus have a variety of dietary options that have good sources of carbohydrates, lipids and proteins, thus being able to adapt them to their personal tastes for a better adherence to the diet.

Como revisión cualitativa, este trabajo utilizó como fuentes bibliográficas los artículos científicos que se exploraron en las bases de datos (PubMed), (SciELO), (LILACS) y (ScienceDirect) utilizando los Descriptores en Ciencias de la Salud (DeCS): "Diabetes Mellitus" , "Dietoterapia", "Necesidades nutricionales" o sus equivalentes en inglés. En total, 14 artículos cumplieron con los criterios metodológicos y sus resultados se tabularon para un mejor análisis y comprensión. La mayoría de los artículos mostraron que la mejora en pacientes con diabetes se asocia con una dieta saludable en la que los macronutrientes se dividen en partes iguales. Se concluyó que los pacientes con diabetes mellitus tienen una variedad de opciones de dieta que tienen buenas fuentes de carbohidratos, lípidos y proteínas, pudiendo así adaptarlos a sus gustos personales para una mejor adherencia a la dieta.O presente estudo tem como objetivo mostrar os efeitos de uma intervenção dietoterápica na diabetes mellitus tipo 1 e 2, através de uma revisão bibliográfica. Como uma revisão qualitativa este trabalho utilizou como fontes bibliográficas artigos científicos foram exploradas nas bases de dados (PubMed), (SciELO), (LILACS) e (ScienceDirect) utilizando-se os Descritores em Ciências da Saúde (DeCS): “Diabetes Mellitus”, “Dietoterapia”, “Necessidades Nutricionais” ou seus equivalentes na língua inglesa. No total, 14 artigos atenderam aos critérios metodológicos e tiveram seus resultados tabulados para melhor análise e compreensão. Em sua maioria os artigos mostraram que a melhora do quadro de paciente portadores da diabetes esta associado a uma dieta saudável em que os macronutrientes estão divididos de forma equilibrada.
