Perspectives in the treatment of lung cancer: analysis of signaling pathways and biomarkers

Resumo: | Lung cancer has the highest incidence and the highest mortality rate in the world. Precision medicine has significantly improved therapeutic options, increasing survival rates. However, a significant number of patients are not eligible for targeted therapies. Thus, molecular characterization and definition of gene signatures based on pathway enrichment can be essential for clinical management and understanding of the therapeutic plan. The objective is to define molecular signatures, enriched pathways and biomarkers of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), outlining a molecular panel of gene expression. The bibliographic study performed was a quick review, with searches in the Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences (LILACS) and Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO) electronic databases, using the descriptors "lung cancer", “molecular signatures”, “enrichment of pathways” and “neoplastic biomarkers”. Therefore, it was possible to identify differentially expressed genes and their inscription in possible signaling pathways, which can be important therapeutic targets. |

La medicina de precisión ha mejorado significativamente las opciones terapéuticas, aumentando las tasas de supervivencia. Sin embargo, un número significativo de pacientes no son elegibles para terapias dirigidas. Por lo tanto, la caracterización molecular y la definición de firmas genéticas basadas en el enriquecimiento de la vía pueden ser esenciales para el manejo clínico y la comprensión del plan terapéutico. El objetivo es definir firmas moleculares, rutas enriquecidas y biomarcadores del cáncer de pulmón de células no pequeñas (CPCNP), delineando un panel molecular de expresión génica. El estudio bibliográfico realizado fue de revisión rápida, con búsquedas en las bases de datos electrónicas de Literatura Latinoamericana y Caribeña en Ciencias de la Salud (LILACS) y Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), utilizando los descriptores "cáncer de pulmón", "firmas moleculares", "enriquecimiento de vías” y “biomarcadores neoplásicos”. Entonces fue posible identificar genes expresados diferencialmente y su inscripción en posibles vías de señalización, que pueden ser importantes dianas terapéuticas.O câncer de pulmão tem a incidência mais alta e a maior taxa de mortalidade em todo o mundo. A medicina de precisão melhorou significativamente as opções terapêuticas, aumentando as taxas de sobrevivência. No entanto, um número significativo de pacientes não é elegível para terapias direcionadas. Assim, a caracterização molecular e a definição de assinaturas gênicas baseadas no enriquecimento de vias podem ser essenciais para o manejo clínico e a compreensão do plano terapêutico. Objetiva-se definir assinaturas moleculares, vias enriquecidas e biomarcadores do câncer de pulmão de não pequenas células (CPNPC), delineando um painel molecular de expressão gênica. O estudo bibliográfico realizado foi do tipo revisão rápida, com buscas nas bases de dados eletrônicas Literatura Latino-Americana e do Caribe em Ciências da Saúde (LILACS) e Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), utilizando-se os descritores “câncer de pulmão”, “biomarcadores”, “enriquecimento de vias” e “biomarcadores neoplásicos”.
