Resumo: Objective: To compare aspects related to the reading of people with aphasia in group speech therapy with patients who did not undergo speech therapy. Method: 27 people with sequelae of aphasia in the subacute phase participated in the research, after the first episode of ischemic stroke: 15 patients who did not undergo speech therapy in a group and 12 who underwent speech therapy in a group. To assess the severity of aphasia, the Boston Diagnostic Aphasia Examination- Reduced (BDAT-R) was applied. A questionnaire was used to assess participants' reading habits. This assessment in relation to reading was performed at the time of inclusion and after 3 months for both groups. Results: In the comparison of the two groups, there was an increase in the habit of regular reading in the group that underwent speech therapy, although not significant (42% to 75%). The group that did not undergo speech therapy, although not significant, showed a decrease in reading habits after the period (53.3% to 40%), despite having a longer period of schooling. Conclusion: Group speech therapy can allow greater adherence and reading frequency in people with aphasia.

Conclusion: Group speech therapy can allow greater adherence and reading frequency in people with aphasia. Research, Society and Development2022-03-17info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttps://rsdjournal.org/index.php/rsd/article/view/2733610.33448/rsd-v11i4.27336Research, Society and Development; Vol. 11 No. 4; e25011427336Research, Society and Development; Vol. 11 Núm. 4; e25011427336Research, Society and Development; v. 11 n. 4; e250114273362525-3409reponame:Research, Society and Developmentinstname:Universidade Federal de Itajubá (UNIFEI)instacron:UNIFEIporhttps://rsdjournal.org/index.php/rsd/article/view/27336/23876Copyright (c) 2022 Josiane Hoffmann; Giselle Athayde Massi; Helbert do Nascimento Lima; Roxele Ribeiro Limahttps://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessHoffmann, JosianeMassi, Giselle Athayde Lima, Helbert do Nascimento Lima, Roxele Ribeiro 2022-03-27T17:17:09Zoai:ojs.pkp.sfu.ca:article/27336Revistahttps://rsdjournal.org/index.php/rsd/indexPUBhttps://rsdjournal.org/index.php/rsd/oairsd.articles@gmail.com2525-34092525-3409opendoar:2024-01-17T09:45:06.510162Research, Society and Development - Universidade Federal de Itajubá (UNIFEI)false
